Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has paid tribute to his canine co-star Hobbs on Tuesday after his death aged 10. 

The French bulldog, known to most people as Hobbs, the actor’s loyal sidekick in Netflix’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, pᴀssed away on Monday night.

Dwayne, 52, uploaded a series of sweet snaps and heartwarming videos of himself and his beloved pup to his Instagram to share the sad news with fans. 

He wrote: ‘RIP (heartbroken emoji) Hobbs.

‘I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family and we’re so grateful he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night.’

‘Lately, there’s been a lot that’s too big to talk about. Lonesome, lonely, heard it’s all the same.’

‘One of my favorite songs felt appropriate here, as I wonder what’s going on his new world, because I know what it’s like in mine.’

‘Not sure how spirits work but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again.’

Friends and fans then flocked to the comment section to give the star their condolences.  

In 2019, Hobbs was cast in the Fast & Furious movie personally by his owner Dwayne, who was also the producer of the movie, as he felt it was the right thing to do given the name.

Sharing a sweet snap of himself and Hobbs on Instagram at the time, the actor introduced his canine to fans, saying: ‘Ladies and gents, the gremlin known as HOBBS.’ 

‘As producer of @hobbsandshaw, I thought it was the right thing to do to actually cast my French bulldog in our movie. Nepotism shmepotism.’ 

The caption accompanied a video of Hobbs’ time on set, with Dwayne calling Hobbs ‘a spoiled movie star’.

He said in the clip: ‘Hobbs was a real pro. He was disciplined, unlike his owner. He was professional, unlike his owner, and he listened to the director, unlike his owner.’

The actor also explained in his caption that he and his family brought home Hobbs and his brother Brutus in 2016, adding that Brutus sadly pᴀssed a few months later. 

He continued: ‘(It) Broke our hearts, but this little beast Hobbs goes on to live his best life daily and I’m quite proud of his performance in our movie, plus, he dropped a steaming 3 curler right in the middle of the set.’ 

The star concluded: ‘The biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen and one bad a** sumb****. 

The movie, which premiered in 2019, follows US agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne) and British mercenary Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).  

The duo form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-genetically enhanced villain threatens the future of humanity.
