Selena Gomez wowed in her figure-hugging Celine gown at Sunday’s SAG Awards, which perfectly highlighted her slimmer frame.
Social media users were quick to notice that the Emila Perez actress was noticeably more slender, with some speculating that she may be using ‘Ozempic’ or a weight loss aid.
However, the actress has been candid that her lupus medication alongside an intestinal illness called SIBO is responsible for her weight fluctuations.
After viewing a since-deleted TikTok video in November 2024 that scrutinised her appearance, Selena commented: ‘This makes me sick. I have SEBO in my small intestine. It flares up.’
‘I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.’
SIBO stands for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, which happens when ‘the pᴀssage of food and waste products in the digestive tract’ slows, ‘creating a breeding ground for bacteria,’ per the Mayo Clinic.

The condition is usually caused by ‘surgery or disease,’ the clinic said, as ‘symptoms include bloating, stomach pain, and malnutrition.’
Last year, Selena opened up about how she used to cry her ‘eyes out’ over body shaming comments but is, now, ‘proud’ of who she is.
‘I’m not perfect but I am proud to be who I am… sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me,’ she wrote on Instagram.
In 2023, she also revealed that her lupus medication causes her weight to fluctuate.
At the time, the Disney Channel alum explained that she tends to ‘hold a lot of water weight’ due to several medications she takes and also encouraged fans to practice self-love even in moments of feeling shame.
The Wizards of Waverly Place alum also stressed the importance of her health over appearances.
‘And yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s***, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself,’ she said.
In response to the haters, she told them to ‘go away, ’cause, honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for [their] body or anything.’

‘So, yeah, not a model,’ she said, adding, ‘Never will be.’
She added: ‘And I think they’re awesome – mind you – I just, I’m definitely not that.’
After her appearance at the Golden Globes, Dr Dennis Schimpf, a board-certified plastic surgeon, told DailyMail.com that Ms Gomez is ‘definitely thin,’ but she isn’t ‘wasting or gaunt, which is normally kind of the giveaway.’
He said: ‘Hers would be the hardest to know for sure. I would be surprised if she had done it just because of her other medical problems and her starting weight not being really heavy.
‘I’ve read a few things about her and that she kind of adopted a more healthy lifestyle and exercises. ‘A lot of times, it’s not necessarily just one thing like the GLP treatment, but also kind of a combination of lifestyle as well as dietary habits.’
The Lose You To Love Me singer announced she had undergone kidney transplant in September 2017.
Her friend Francia Raisa made the life-saving decision to donate her kidney to Gomez, who at just 24 had suffered organ damage relating to her lupus diagnosis.
