Gogglebox fans were left reeling after a ‘creepy’ incestuous scene from White Lotus left them feeling ‘uncomfortable,’ with some admitting they had to turn off the Channel 4 show altogether. 

The nation’s favourite TV critics were presented with a variety of shows to review, including this week’s picks: Celebrity Bear Hunt and The Fear Clinic: Face Your Phobia.

However, it was a scene from The White Lotus, which premiered on Sky on Monday, that sparked the most significant reaction. Some fans were so uncomfortable that they felt compelled to switch off.

The White Lotus has become notorious for its steamy scenes and jaw-dropping moments across its first two seasons, set in Hawaii and Sicily, and the new season continues this trend. 

A particular scene from the first episode, featuring brothers Saxon and Lochlan sharing a H๏τel room, caused a stir online – and it was no different for the Gogglebox families this week. 

In the eyebrow-raising moment, older brother Saxon (played by Patrick Schwarzenegger) quizzed his younger sibling on his porn preferences before strutting starkers into the bathroom for some ‘me time,’ with his full-frontal reflection caught in the mirror.

While Gogglebox viewers were spared the full frontal, the sofa critics saw it all. Everyone from Ellie and Izzy to Jenny and Lee, and the Michael family, were left shocked, letting out a collective ‘Oh!’ in surprise. 

Meanwhile, fans were amused by Pete and Sophie’s commentary on the complimentary shortbread biscuits. 

One viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter): ‘Gogglebox so far so pervy lol he’s right there’; 

Another added: ‘#Gogglebox has just made me put a line through watching the white lotus. Too weird and disturbing. No thanks!’; 

And one viewer was so taken aback by the clip that they switched off Gogglebox altogether: ‘Why does #Gogglebox always end with the weird stuff. Turned off for the last five minutes. White lotus is a no-go for me, sorry.’

In Sunday night’s premiere, Saxon struts onto the screen dripping with bravado, baring it all—literally —while his flirtatious remark about his sister being ‘pretty H๏τ’ and an ambiguous dynamic with his younger brother fuel controversy over a hinted-at incestuous subplot.

Fans wasted no time flooding social media with reactions—some amused, others scandalized—by Saxon’s over-the-top machismo, his full-frontal scene, and the eyebrow-raising family tension.

Patrick, clearly enjoying the buzz, gleefully reshared several tweets, adding laughing emojis to the mix.

One tweet had a fan saying he wanted to ‘kill Saxon with a hammer’, as another showed other alpha male characters from other seasons with the caption,’ So there really is one every season huh.’

Another fan chimed in with a pictured of the Ratcliff family – Patriarch Timothy (Jason Isaacs), his wife Victoria ( Parker Posey ), son Saxon, daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and youngest son Lochlan (Sam Nivola).’This family is so weird, I’m scared #TheWhiteLotus,’ they wrote.

Season three of The White Lotus premiered to record-breaking ratings.

The star-studded cast, including Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Michelle Monaghan, debuted on Sunday night, drawing 2.4 million cross-platform viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

That’s a 57% increase compared to the season two premiere, which had 1.5 million viewers. 

The President’s Day holiday helped boost viewership, pushing the total to 4.6 million viewers within the first 36 hours of availability – double the number for season two’s premiere. 

HBO reported that viewership more than tripled in Latin America and Europe, although it didn’t provide specific data to back that claim. 

The Mike White created satire is set in Thailand this season and, spoiler alert, an unidentified body turned up in the first episode. 

Multiple fan forums have already started to speculate on who the victim is.
