Kate Hudson has admitted there is one role she regrets turning down in her nearly 30-year long Hollywood career.
On Friday, the 45-year-old revealed on Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast that she declined playing Andrea Sachs in the 2006 hit film, The Devil Wears Prada, which eventually went to Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway.
‘That was a bad call,’ she confessed to the outlet.
However, the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days star defender her decision, noting that while she was interested in snatching up the role, scheduling conflicts were to blame.
‘It was a timing thing, it was one of those things where I couldn’t do it, and I should’ve made it happen, and I didn’t,’ she said. ‘That was one where when I saw it I was like, “Ugh.”‘
Filming for The Devil Wears Prada took place from September 17, 2005 to October 2005 and at the time, the star was shooting for You, Me and Dupree which may have caused time clashes.

‘It’s not like you don’t do them because you don’t want to do them. It’s like, oh, you’re doing something else. And it just sucked, you know?’
Anne Hathaway ultimately landed the coveted lead role, and the film became a mᴀssive box office success, raking in an impressive $326 million globally.
Co-lead Meryl Streep delivered a powerhouse performance that secured her 14th Academy Award nomination with her role, further cementing her legendary status in Hollywood.
The 2006 comedy-drama follows the story of ‘aspiring journalist, Andy, a smart but sensible young graduate, who travels to New York. She starts working as an ᴀssistant to one of the city’s biggest high fashion magazine editors, the cynical Miranda Priestly (Streep),’ per an official IMDB description.
Hudson’s revelation comes months after the second installment of The Devil Wears Prada was confirmed to be in the works, nearly 19 years after the flagship film was released.
Disney has brought on screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the original 2006 film from the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, via Variety.
While the original cast hasn’t been confirmed to return yet, the reported plot description hints that both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would reprise their roles.

During an appearance on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 show on Thursday, Kate was played a 2008 clip in which she spoke about her mother recognising her pᴀssion for performing before she even knew it herself.
Reacting to the clip, Kate said: ‘I think she [Goldie] honestly knew that there was no choice before I knew what I was even going to do.
‘And I can see it in my son [Ryder]. Now, you know when your kid has that. He doesn’t know it yet, but I do, and I think my parents kind of have the same thing.’
Kate continued: ‘He’s got it. He’s got it! It’s so crazy to hear that, because my son is literally in performing arts school right now. He’s 21. Ah! Well, he’ll be fine.
‘Oh go on, why are you “Ah?”‘ Vernon asked.
Gushing over her son, Kate replied: ‘Because he’s so funny and he’s so smart, he’s very self-possessed and, and he’s an amazing person.

‘And I just know that, you know, I think our family does a really good job of, like, you know, kids have a hard time thinking that they have to do something so significant, which means to them be seen.
‘But like, significance is, like, if you’re happy putting what you’re putting out in the world, you know? And I just, I hope that I think he’s got that, I think he’s going to be all right.’
‘Your face has just literally lit up,’ Vernon replied.
‘Yeah, I mean. That’s my kid, that’s my little baby. I was so young too, so it’s fun to have, you know, an adult child that I can hang with,’ Kate explained.
‘Yeah, 21 now you can kind of,’ Vernon said before Kate added: ‘Oh yeah. It’s, it’s like the 90s!’
Kate was 23 years old when she welcomed Ryder with then-husband Chris, to whom she was married from 2000 to 2007.
She previously told People, she ‘just can’t believe that I was only a couple years older than him when I decided to have a child,’ describing it as a ‘wild discovery.’
