‘It’s contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s positive thoughts and prayers.

The band has now rescheduled multiple shows in light of Platt’s illness, including two upcoming concerts.

Kansas was formed in 1973 but Platt didn’t join the band until 2014, after lead singer Steve Walsh retired.

The rock band, behind the classics Dust In The Wind and Carry On Wayward Son, catapulted their wildly successful career with the release their first album Topeka in 1974.

The group’s original line-up consisted of Richard Williams, Phil Ehart, Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh, Robbie Steinhardt, and Dave Hope.

Now Williams and Ehart are the only remaining original members of the group, which now also includes Platt, Zak Rivi, Tom Brislin, Joe Deninzon, and Dan McGowan.

‘There’s a small paragraph on the cover of our first album that says, ‘Kansas is a band.” It’s not Kansas featuring somebody or certain people. When Kansas plays, it sounds like Kansas,’ Ehart previously told Billboard of their changing line-up.

‘If there’s a bit of rotating of members under the moniker of Kansas, then so be it. So this time Kansas is going to be Steve Morse playing guitar — boy, what a great addition he was. Or David Ragsdale on violin.

‘Or Ronnie Platt coming in, or Billy Greer on bᴀss. There has been a lot of different people coming and going, but it’s all under the auspices of the band. We go out and do what we do best, which is write and play Kansas music.’

The group has sold more than 30 million records, with eight of their albums going gold and three hitting Sєxtuple-platinum.

Platt has performed on two Kansas albums, The Prelude Implicit and The Absence of Presence.
