Mindy Kaling has left fans cringing after revealing Meghan Markle’s ‘ridiculous’ advice for hosting kids’ parties.

The Office star, 45, who appears on Markle’s upcoming Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, gushed over the former working Royal’s expertise at throwing children’s parties in a chat with Time.

She said: ‘I think a misconception about Meghan is that she’s in any way fussy or has expectations of fanciness. She really is a down-to-earth person who knows a lot of fun tricks to make entertaining and cooking easier.’

Kaling said the pair had met when she was on maternity leave after welcoming her third child, with Markle texting her to ask if she wanted to come for a meal at the Montecito mansion she shares with Prince Harry for her new show.

Asked if she picked up any hosting tips, Kaling said: ‘Spoiler alert: I did. The theme was throwing a party for children. I love cooking, but I’m really not good at entertaining. I don’t know anything about how you’re not supposed to use overhead lighting when people come over. You’re supposed to use little lamps. 

‘But Meghan just knows how to do that stuff. For kids’ parties I usually just go to the party supply store and get paper things, which I don’t judge and neither does she. But it was fun to learn simple ways to do a homemade kids’ party.’

She added that mother-of-two Markle had gifted her a ‘basket of fresh produce and homemade jam and H๏τ sauce because she knew I loved H๏τ sauce. She’s a very generous woman who knew I needed a break.’

The hosting tip was widely blasted by fans as ‘out of touch’ with Royal News Network starting the discussion writing: ‘Sure, that advice works, if you own a $15 million mansion! But for the average Joe, they wouldn’t do that. Gosh, this thing sounds so out of touch!! If you artfully place lamps around your home rather than using, I don’t know, the light switch to turn the lights on, please let me know. ‘

Fans rushed to comment with one replying: ‘Totally clueless. Do they not understand how silly and ridiculous that sounds? Why can’t you use overhead lighting? I need to see what the kids are doing. Meghan Markle doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body. 

Others wrote: ‘Are the little boys in smoking jackets and the girls in pearls whilst eating canapes? What kind of party is this

‘So the average person on an average income is supposed to go out and buy a bunch of lamps and then try and find somewhere to store them.. give me a break 

‘Never throughout my child’s childhood have I used lamps at his birthday parties. Given that the parties are ‘as ever’ thrown during the day & my home has windows which allow natural light from the sun lamps are not a thing. If we’ve ever needed another light source we as ever simply turn the lights on. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard pertaining to children’s birthday parties. It’s not as though it’s a romantic dinner for 2.

‘gee, I just threw a few balloons, hung a sign in my house. I don’t have extra lamps to place around – where do these two come from? If this advice is for the rich and famous, they should have a group meeting in their mansions.

‘Because little kids on a sugar high will obliterate those random lamps in a New York second.

‘You wouldn’t use all that pretentious stuff on a child under 8 if you want the kids to have fun! Kids want to play & run & be noisy, not be seated at a table with expectations not to move! Don’t tell me she merches her own daughters party set up?!

Markle recently hit a major personal milestone after she announced her lifestyle venture, American Riveria Orchard, had been re-branded to As Ever.

The Duchess of SusSєx, 43, now has two million followers on her own Instagram account as of February 20, just a few days after she made the revelation on Monday.

‘I’m thrilled to introduce you to As Ever — a brand that I created and have poured my heart into,’ Markle wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, which was accompanied by a video announcement.

She also shared that launch will coincide with the release of her new cooking show on Netflix, which will premiere on March 4.

‘This new chapter is an extension of what has always been my love language, beautifully weaving together everything I cherish — food, gardening, entertaining, thoughtful living, and finding joy in the everyday,’ Markle wrote, as she promised to keep fans in the loop.

Markle, who used to run a successful, Goop-style blog called The Tig, kicked off this new year with a return to the social media platform, going under the username @meghan.
