Paloma Faith reveals she is ‘softening’ to the idea of marriage as she opens up about her new man following her split from ex Leyman Lahcine

Paloma Faith has revealed her new love has made her finally consider marriage after previously always being totally against it.

The singer, 43, was last in a long-term relationship with the father of her two daughters, French artist Leyman Lahcine, for ten years but they never married.

She has now told for the first time how serious her relationship has become with her new man, as she revealed they had been dating for nearly a year.

Speaking on Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo’s Newly weds podcast on Thursday, Paloma said: ‘This is a strange thing.

‘I wasn’t married to my kids’ dad and I’ve always been someone that’s very anti-marriage, because the history of it is that it’s about ownership of women and I’m the child of a feminist.

‘Weirdly, I don’t know what’s changed in me, but this guy gives me a bit like ‘Oh well’.’

She continued: ‘I remember when I met him I was like “I’m never going to get married, don’t ever ask me”.

‘And then over time now I’m like “Yeah I don’t know, I’ll keep an open mind”. I can just feel myself softening.

‘If my mum hears this she’ll be like “What the hell is going on with you? Is it a mid-life crisis?'”

‘I do think having kids with someone is stronger than marriage from experience.’

However, the 43-year-old star insisted she would only marry her financial equal and would want to ensure her ᴀssets were carefully protected.

She explained: ‘I also think I wouldn’t really want to get married to somebody unless I could genuinely think it was properly forever and it was equal and balanced, and I didn’t have that in my (former) relationship.

‘I felt I had too much to lose to him if it didn’t work out. Just like financially.

‘I would have given up my kids’ inheritance. I just was like ‘I’ve got to protect what’s mine and what’s my kids’. If I ever did do it, I would have a prenup.

‘I think I wouldn’t be able to do it if I didn’t feel that a person was my equal financially or better off than me because I know that I don’t want anything off anyone.

‘I’ve done so much to get it. I don’t come from anything. I’m not going to do all this work just to lose it.

‘My mum’s mum when she died left them £170 each. We cried more about that. It was the most harrowing thing, to be like ‘She worked so hard her whole life and that was all she could leave her kids’. That makes you feel so sad.’

Asked by Jamie if it means she’s in love now, Paloma replied: ‘Yeah.

‘Also I feel like I’m coming from the perspective that I know how it can pan out as well. It can go still. If we don’t invest, if we don’t ask each other.

‘I really also believe in therapy so much. I just think if you get someone good, I think it’s so important.

‘If you’re with someone who’s like ‘I’m willing to go and try that’.’

It comes after Paloma said the reason for her break-up from Lahcine was the pressure of having two daughters.

The couple split in 2022 and welcomed their first daughter in December 2016, followed by their second in February 2021.

Speaking previously to Jamie on his podcast Great Company in November, Paloma opened up about navigating the split as co-parents and her ‘heartbreak album’.

‘I think this is ongoing navigation because we have children together,’ she said.

‘And that’s what makes this a different type of heartbreak album. The heartbreak will be forever and the navigation of our relationship changing shape will be forever, probably until we die.’

Explaining how heartbreak differs when you have children, Paloma said: ‘Some people sort of, you know, just because you don’t see them, some people never speak again.

‘And they’re still very present because you look at your kids and you see that person in your kids or they come back from visiting your ex partner and they’re doing the mannerisms or they’ve got opinions that you don’t agree with it or their opinions or whatever.’

Back in May it was reported that Paloma was once again on the hunt for love and had signed up to the celebrity dating app Raya.

The Sun revealed Paloma had created a five point checklist as she set out the tough criteria her next partner will need to meet.

Paloma is not interested in dating men under 5ft 11ins, mummy’s boys or Tories, and would also rather avoid UGG boot wearers and men who take more than 25 minutes to get ready to go out.

She wrote on her profile: ‘You need to be able to laugh at yourself and me. I am brutally honest, fun and wear my heart on my sleeve.’

Paloma shares two daughter, seven and three, with her former partner and is not prepared to extend her maternal instincts onto any potential boyfriends.

She added: ‘If you want a mother figure please don’t bother, I have two kids already.’

The star also requested: ‘I know this is horrific to say but 5.11ft is my minimum height requirement.’

Her final point requires the man to be working on himself through therapy as she added: ‘If you haven’t done or aren’t doing therapy, no thank you.’
