Bridgerton's Luke Thompson reveals why he declined to seek the advice of his co-stars ahead of taking a lead role in season 4 - as he joins the cast at the show's Season of Love fan event

Bridgerton star Luke Thompson has revealed why he declined seeking advice from his co-stars ahead of taking on a lead role in the fourth season.

The fourth installment of the Netflix hit, which airs in 2026, will centre on the love story of Luke’s character Benedict Bridgerton and a new leading lady Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha.

The previous three series saw Luke’s onscreen siblings Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony) and Luke Newton(Colin) take precedence in their respective episodes as viewers watched their love stories play out.

However, despite their experience, Luke, 36, told how he opted to forge his own path and not turn to them for guidance as he wanted to live his ‘own experience’.

Speaking to MailOnline at the Netflix programme’s Season of Love fan celebration, Luke explained: ‘I have to give a lot being the lead but it is a provide and not a burden. It’s nice for the character which is exciting.

‘It is a personal experience leading the show and I was tempted to talk to people but it’s my own experience.’

Meanwhile, the actor opted up on the feeling of nerves he felt after walking onto the spectacular season four set or the first time.

He shared: ‘Seeing the new set for the first time I was terrified but it is magical seeing it.

‘During the read through I had a moment and there is a moment of midnight and it’s that Cinderella and I want people to be swept away’.

The hunk went on to explain the importance of the dances on screens, adding: ‘My dancing skills are perfectly adequate. You’re trying to tell a story, the most magical moments are in the dances, its telling stories through it. It’s easy with the incredible team.’

Meanwhile, Luke was joined by Australian actress Yerin, 27, at the event, who opened up on her ‘complex’ character Sophie.

She told MailOnline: ‘It’s like an MRI scan. It’s suffocating and it’s complex.

‘Sophie’s stakes are really high and she has to survive in that household. As a maid if you mess up you would be out.’

Meanwhile Yerin, whose casting in season 4 was confirmed in September, revealed she entered into the audition process pretty late.

She explained: ‘I knew of Bridgerton but I got the audition pretty late in the process, it was like two week process.

‘My agent was like I need to send a tape in an hour and then it was a call back a day later. I was in Korea at the time and then I did a video call with Luke and then got on a plane to London.’

The actress was in good spirits as she joined her fellow cast members at the dinner event and Q&A held at London’s Raffles in the OWO building.

She was joined on stage by the likes of Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte) and Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell.

Yerin plays the role of Benedict’s love interest and is set to be the beauty’s big break after appearing in minor television shows such as Halo.

Returning to the show is fan favourite, Jonathan Bailey, in his role as eldest son Anthony Bridgerton as filming began this month for the Netflix sensation.

Season 4 will dive much more into the Regency era’s upstairs-downstairs class politics than previous seasons, due to Sophie being of a lower class than Benedict and the Bridgerton family, as well as the fairytale and forbidden love tropes.

Netflix confirmed: ‘Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down.

‘That is, until an enthralling woman captures Benedict’s attention at Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball.

‘While Benedict knows his love interest as only the Lady in Silver, she’s actually Sophie, a resourceful maid with her own secrets and dreams.’

Ahead of taking on this season’s lead role Luke said of his character: ‘Benedict has always been a little lost — or free depending on the way you want to look at it. But now he’s trying to find something a bit more solid in himself.’

The fourth season won't air until 2026 but will centre on the love story of the Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, 36, and a new leading lady Sophie Baek (pictured)

Creator Shonda Rhymes added: ‘He’s a charming man who’s trying to find his way. He’s very delightful and funny. I’m excited for everybody to watch him.’

Although a release date has not been announced yet, it is confirmed the season will be made of 8 parts and will take around 8 months to wrap up filming.

Speaking to THR, showrunner Jess Brownell said: ‘We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language.

‘The writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.’
