Seth Rogen says Donald Trump prevailed in election because people were tired of ‘hippies doing acid’

Seth Rogen has offered his unusual opinion about Donald Trump’s second rise to the presidency.

The 42-year-old actor opened up about politics and other topics in an expansive interview with Esquire published Wednesday.

‘People get sick of seeing f****** hippies doing acid and f****** on their lawns, and they’re like, “Let’s f****** clean up these streets a little bit,”‘ the This Is the End star.

He added, ‘And then people get sick of seeing f****** dorks cleaning up the streets, and they go back the other way.’

The Vancouver, Canada-born star told the outlet he has focused on keeping calm amidst the rapidly-evolving timeframe in American politics.

‘I personally try not to go too dark on all of it and think like, “Oh, are we on the precipice of global societal collapse?”‘ the five-time Emmy-nominee said. ‘Since the end of the Civil War, America’s remained a very divided country in a lot of ways.’

The Interview star said he wasn’t taking the ongoing changes in the country lightly.

‘That’s not to say it doesn’t have very real and troubling ramifications on many people’s lives,’ said Rogen.

The Superbad star said he tries ‘to maintain hope that the ball will roll onwards, even though it might be wobbling back and forth.’

The Pineapple Express actor told the magazine he believed that cinema often reflects the zeitgeist.

‘I think movies are a good indicator of the culture,’ Rogen said. ‘Like, there was the westerns era, and then it got more thoughtful, movies like Apocalypse Now and Platoon that critiqued the Vietnam War.

‘And then the irony was stripped away and it was just Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the jungle just shooting the living f*** out of everything. It just ebbs and flows.’

Rogen has past spoken out about political and cultural issues, such as in a 2021 social media spat with Sen. Ted Cruz he later expounded on during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

On the CBS talk show in May of 2021, Rogen called Cruz a ‘fascist’ after the Texas Republican backed Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Rogen said at the time: ‘Ted Cruz is a fascist – he denies the reality of the election – his words caused people to die, and I’m making jokes about it.’

Rogen also spoke about his sentiments against Trump in a 2017 chat with The Daily Beast.

‘I don’t want to look back in 10 years and think, “I just didn’t say anything during that time,” because it seems like a time when it’s very important to normalize dissent,’ Rogen told the outlet.

He added that he had been ‘very conscious not to insult people who voted for Donald Trump.’
