Ke Huy Quan reveals his Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg has sent him a Christmas gift for the past 40 years

Ke Huy Quan reveals his Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg has sent him a Christmas gift for the past 40 years

Ke Huy Quan revealed his first director – Steven Spielberg – has been sending him Christmas gifts for the past 40 years.

The 53-year-old director started his career with Spielberg’s 1984 action-adventure Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the Spielberg-produced, Richard Donner-directed The Goonies.

The former child star took an acting hiatus for two decades until he returned with his Oscar-winning role in Everything Everywhere All At Once in 2022.

Quan was promoting his new movie Love Hurts on Andy Cohen’s Sirius XM show Radio Andy, where he revealed Spielberg sent over a gift every Christmas.

‘Over the last 40 years, every single year when the holiday season rolls around, I would always get that call from his ᴀssistant, asking what the best mailing address,’ Quan revealed.

Cohen asked if the director would send, ‘a card or a gift,’ and Quan revealed he would send, ‘a gift,’ every year, without fail.

Cohen asked what kind of gift it was, as his co-host joked if it was something like Tom Cruise’s now-infamous coconut cake list from Doan’s Bakery in Los Angeles.

‘I want to be on that list,’ Quan joked, while revealing that there were times when the director would seemingly know exactly what the actor would want.

‘Over the years, it’s quite amazing, because some times I would say this new gadget would come out and I’d want to buy it,’ Quan said.

‘Sure enough, it’s really crazy to think about it, then that present, that gift would come. And it would be exactly what I want. It’s happened multiple times,’ Quan said.

This isn’t the first time Quan has spoken about Spielberg’s generosity, opening up about his relationship with the director in a 2022 interview with The Guardian.

‘He gave me my first job and, so many years later, he has not forgotten me. Every time I needed help, he’s always there,’ Quan said.

Quan also thanked the director at the Golden Globes after he won Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

‘I was raised to never forget where I came from, to always remember who gave me my first opportunity,’ the actor said at the time.

‘I am so happy to see Steven Spielberg here tonight. Steven, thank you. When I started my career as a child actor in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, I felt so very lucky to have been chosen. As I grew older, I started to wonder if that was it, if that was just luck,’ he added.

The beloved actor also recently reunited with the cast of The Goonies when he received his handprints at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, where Josh Brolin delivered some heartwarming remarks.

‘You’re truly one of the last existences of the American dream. Ke Huy Quan … I won’t say much but that after The Goonies, I too lived in the ethers of our business for 19 years. The only difference is I was still chipping away at leftovers and trading stocks full time while you pursued a whole other profession and excelled in it famously,’ Brollin said.

‘You have that Midas touch, my friend, and you have it because you have that heart of gold that you always have,’ he added.
