Jane Seymour, 73, reveals the surprising benefit of being a senior citizen in Hollywood

Jane Seymour has revealed a surprising benefit to being over 65 in Hollywood.

The 73-year-old actress shared that the older she gets, the more interesting her roles are.

She made the comments when at the AARP Movies for Grownups awards over the weekend.

‘The older I got, the more [interesting] the roles were and the more I really needed every muscle in my face to move,’ she told People.

‘I really love the roles I’m getting and if I’m playing character roles, which I am, but character roles that are still kind of Sєxy and fun,’ she said.

She jokingly added, ‘I think at this point, I’m pretty comfortable just being able to age up and down and around.’

She specifically mentioned her 1981 movie East of Eden in which she played Cyrus Trask from the ages of 13 to 60 when she was 30-years-old.

‘So I’ve been jumping around ever since I was young,’ she told the outlet. ‘I played older and younger in everything.’

Jane presented the award for Best Documentary to Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

The film follows the life of her late co-star in 1980’s Somewhere in Time, Christopher Reeve.

She described the Superman star, who died in 2004 at age 52, as a ‘real life Superman.’

‘I think he teaches all of us that everyone in life will have challenges, some more than others,’ Seymour said.

‘The hardest thing to do is to accept. And if you can accept, open up your heart, reach out to help someone else, you’ll have a purpose.

‘And that is the secret to happiness. And if you have a purpose, then you can feel really good about yourself.’

‘When you feel good about yourself, you are like a magnet,’ she added. ‘People want to be part of something good.’

This isn’t the first time the Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman has spoken out about aging and what she’s learned from her decades in Hollywood.

She spoke to People at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala, she offered some of the wisdom she had picked up during her career.

‘Don’t take it for granted. It isn’t easy,’ she told the outlet on Wednesday. ‘The balance of how you come across and how you conduct yourself is huge, sadly.’

She advised older actresses to remain true to themselves and avoid pretending to be a twenty-something.be a twenty-something.

‘But also I’ve never given up. I now have my own series again, and I’m in my 70s,’ Jane, who currently stars on Harry Wild, continued.

‘So I say to women, “Don’t give up and be authentic.” Don’t pretend to be 20 when you’re 70. Be 70.’

Seymour currently stars on the Irish dramedy series Harry Wild, which has been airing since 2022.

Seymour is a past Emmy winner herself, as she won the honors for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Special at the 1988 Primetime Emmys for her role as Maria Callas in Onᴀssis: The Richest Man in the World.
