Sean Paul has revealed the secret to his three-decade career, explaining how he’s managed to avoid the curse of cancel culture.

The rapper, 52, burst into the limelight in the Noughties with chart-topping hits such as Temperature and Get Busy still playing today. 

Now, Sean is preparing to return to Britain for his biggest UK Tour to date and sat down with MailOnline to explain how he’s kept his star shine. 

‘Honestly, it’s been wild,’ Sean mused. ‘I don’t know if it’s a secret more than it’s the actual crowd of people that pick us and like what we do and how we conduct ourselves.

‘It’s been an awesome ride, a crazy journey, and I just have to give thanks. I’ve loved music since a little kid. My mum used to play me Beatles and Cat Stevens and all these kind of records and I’ve I had an appreciation for music since back then.

‘I didn’t know that I would be someone who would be getting into the music industry and making hits so it’s a dream come true.’

While other rappers of Sean’s era have been tainted by calls to ‘cancel them’, such as Eminem over his ‘problematic lyrics’ and Snoop Dogg for supporting President Trump, Sean has managed to avoid any ire. 

Sharing his thoughts on how he’s managed to stay away from the dark side of the music industry, Sean said: ‘Deep within me I have a strong faith and I think the only cancelling I can get is from the almighty creator.

‘Fame comes with ups and downs. The music business is full of major disappointments for a lot of people, and I’ve faced all of that before.

‘I’ve been at the rock bottom where no one knew your name and you were a fly on the wall and I  was OK with that. 

‘So, yes it’s kind of nerve wracking sometimes, you wanna speak your mind and you knowyou’re constantly reminded of this cancel culture… but I have faith in myself and in The Creator.

‘I’m a good dude. I don’t do much evil, so I’m OK!’ 

It’s a testament to his career that he is heading out on tour with fellow music legends Ashanti and Fat Joe. 

‘I’m just looking forward to blessing the world and the fans that come out,’ Sean mused. ‘It’s gonna be like a flip side of the coin, her smooth sensual R&B vibes, and then my craziness with the dancehall.

‘Just love to her and big up to Fat Joe and all the fans coming out.’

When Sean is not singing he keeps himself busy in a surprising way, revealing he’s a fan of gardening. 

Right now he’s hard at work installing a PVC farm at his home in Jamaica to help him grow more in his beloved vegetable garden. 

‘The space on Earth is getting very sparce,’ Sean explained. ‘I think consolidating certain things is a good way to go.

‘So yeah, I try to grow stuff. I’ve grown quite a lot of peppers and tomatoes and onion and stuff like that. It’s a good hobby.’

As well as being green-fingered, Sean has other hidden talents. 

‘I cook,’ Sean revealed. ‘I cook a good curry chicken, yeah with my homegrown veg and my pepper sauce.’

The father-of-two added that he also still trains with Jamaica’s national swimming and water polo teams.

As a teenager he had ambitions of representing his country at the Olympics, having made the national swimming and water polo teams aged 13 and clocking up 5,000 metres in the pool with his two-hour daily training sessions. 

Yet while he gave up his dream of going pro to follow his music career, he still keeps fit and active with his swimming sessions to this day.
