James Martin confesses that he has some ‘serious’ worries as he turns his focus from TV to his  UK tour

James Martin has confessed that he has some ‘serious’ worries as he turns his focus from TV to his upcoming UK tour.

The famed chef, 52, warned that BBC fans should not expect his performances to resemble his TV stint Saturday Kitchen in an interview with Cotswold Life Magazine.

He revealed that he had concerns about not meeting people’s expectation and putting on a ‘rubbish’ performance.

As he listed some of the more ‘serious’ venues, which included  Birmingham Symphony Hall, Newcastle 02, and Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, James explained that his sets will be most fast paced an comedy-centered.

He told the publication: ‘People think the live shows are going to be like my Saturday morning show, but it’s really not – it’s fast-paced, fun comedy, made by a great team and it is really cool.’

But he did admit that having his parents in the audience does sooth his nerves when he has to perform in front of such huge crowds.

‘On my last tour we played a Sunday night at The London Palladium’, he added.

‘Walking out on that stage, seeing my mum and dad in the audience was magical. They knew how much I had worked and for how long to get there.’

His confession comes after livid Loose Women fans urged James to ‘move with the times’ as he shared a controversial cooking opinion.

During his latest appearance on the daytime programme, the British chef joined the panel to discuss his new book Cheese, which features a whopping 100 recipes for ultimate cheese lovers.

However, the conversation quickly drifted from his book to his dislike of air fryers – a kitchen appliance that cooks food by circulating H๏τ air around it, creating a crispy exterior without the need for a lot of oil.

While discussing how his grandma taught him how to cook, James said: ‘Yeah my nana (and) my grandpa (taught me to cook), none of my family were chefs, but my granny was the most amazing cook.’

‘My auntie used to make the most amazing patisserie, she never had a machine, it was all no air fryers then.’

‘She used to make shortbread whilst she was watching Corrie and then she would put it all together and it used to melt in your mouth.’

‘It was the most amazing thing, so I’ve always tried to replicate that in everything that I do.’

Denise Welch then asked the TV show host why air fryers are ‘not his thing,’ to which he claimed that people should just use an oven.

He said: ‘We’re not against them, we just cope perfectly well without them, I just get the feeling that in a few years’ time they’re gonna be in this same place,’

‘Do you remember those liquid globe things that we used to have in the eighties (lava lamps), it’s gonna be the same context of that.’

He quipped: ‘I just think we’ve coped so well without them, we’ve got this thing in the kitchen it’s called an oven, just use it.’

Viewers then took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their anger over James’ comments, claiming ‘it’s clear he doesn’t have to worry about his gas or electric usage’ as air fryers are generally cheaper to run than an oven.

One fan fumed: ‘Cooking for just one or two people in your oven is daft! Costs more to cook the food than it did to buy it.’; ‘I think James Martin is wrong about air fryers – It’s too expensive to heat up and use a gas or electric oven when cooking a few items,’

‘It’s clear he doesn’t have to look at or worry about his gas or electric usage…’;

‘Ovens cost more to run you idiot, airfryers are much more economical to use, it’s called moving with the times!’
