Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell had an emotional reaction to finding out that she was allegedly ‘blocked’ from contacting her daughter, Carly, by her adoptive parents.

Since making the difficult choice to place her first child up for adoption as a teenager, alongside her now-husband Tyler Baltierra, in 2009, the reality star, 32, has endured a complicated relationship with her eldest’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis.

During Thursday’s episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Lowell broke down in tears as she spoke with her and Baltierra’s adoption counselor, Dawn.

Lowell contacted Dawn after allegedly receiving a text message from Carly’s mom that she would no longer ‘be responding’ to her messages after feeling ‘very hurt’ by something the TV personality said about her and Brandon online.

As documented on the inaugural season of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, the Davis family adopted Lowell and Baltierra’s baby girl. 

At the time, Brandon and Teresa agreed to an open adoption, under the condition they could change it to a closed adoption, at any time.

Catelynn told Dawn that their adoption felt ‘very closed’ now and explained it was giving her PTSD. 

‘Now that contact has been blocked and I’m cut off; that does feel like you are putting a fine line in the sand of no more,’ she said of the arrangement.

Baltierra added: ‘Blocking is something children do.’ 

‘If their opinion is different than yours and they’ve asked for space and they’ve asked for things to chill and it hasn’t happened, then is it the only alternative they can see?’ Dawn told the couple. 

Dawn, then, reminded the pair that they ‘have a lot of power’ due to their large social media followings. 

‘When you put it out in public platform on social media, I read the comments, you know people make up their own narrative. A lot of hurt happens when we live our life out on social media,’ she said. 

Catelynn went on to tell Dawn if Carly wanted to end contact with her that she would ‘100% step back.’ 

This prompted Dawn to ask if it was ‘fair’ to ‘put that kind of pressure on a young teenager.’

‘If it’s coming from Brandon and Teresa’s fear or insecurity or she’s getting older and they’re not wanting contact, I will not stop reaching out,’ Catelynn insisted. ‘I will not stop sending her gifts. I will not do it, Dawn. I will not.’

Dawn cautioned Lowell that she was putting her biological daughter in ‘a very difficult position’ that may feel like a game of tug of war. 

‘Sometimes we have to take a step back,’ Dawn advised. 

Lowell sH๏τ back: ‘That’s not fair, Dawn… You never had to give a child to somebody and live with that for the rest of your life. It’s just not fair.’ 

‘I’m taking a pause until initiation happens not from me,’ Baltierra said of how he plans on handling the situation.

Ahead of the season premiere, which aired last month, Lowell told TooFab that they remained blocked from Carly. 

‘There hasn’t been any improvement. We’re still blocked. I still have no way of communicating with them, even if I wanted to. So no, it’s still the same,’ she told the outlet. 

The author added: ‘Now I’ve kind of turned it to where I’m just trying to do adoption, adoptee advocation, so having adoptees use their voices and speak their situations and what would’ve helped them, you know?’ 

Lowell also theorized that their reality show held Carly’s adoptive parents  ‘accountable’ or she thinks they may have ‘cut off contact a long time ago.’

‘I truly believe that,’ she said. ‘I mean, usually, when a birth parent decides on an open adoption, most open adoptions close within the first five years, and that’s not because the birth parents want it to happen, it’s because the adoptive parents just do it.’

They were also joined by the couple’s three youngest daughters Rya, 3½, Vaeda, who turns 6 this month, and Novalee, 10.

At the time, Lowell shared a black and white pH๏τo of them all together with a sweet caption gushing over Carly. 

‘She’s funny, kind, SMART, goofy, and STUNNING,’ the proud mom wrote on Instagram.

Since Carly was born, the couple has gone on to welcome three more daughters Rya, 3½, Vaeda, who turns 6 this month, and Novalee, 10 

In the pH๏τo, the family is seen walking hand-in-hand away from the direction of the camera.

Tyler carried their daughter Vaeda and Carly was holding Rya while Catelynn looked adoringly at her family.

Catelynn then continued about putting Carly up for adoption and continued about how difficult a decision it was for her.

‘Adoption is hard and saying goodbye time and time again is soooo hard,’ she said. ‘But seeing all of our girls together, getting to know Carly deeper and deeper each time and being with all four of our daughters is truly such a blessing.’

At the end of her caption, she also added the hashtags: ‘#adoption #loveyou #mygirls’.

In the comments section, Tyler continued the love for Carly and their family.

‘Omg,’ the internet personality wrote. ‘The feeling I have when I’m with all of my beautiful girls is truly indescribable. The amount of pure organic love is overwhelming, almost to the point of being unbearable at times.’

He then expressed his agreement on Carly’s attributes and praised her as well.

‘She’s so smart. She’s so kind. She’s so goofy and her laughing face is imprinting and infectious,’ he gushed. ‘Her parents have done such an amazing job raising her!’

‘It’s pure magic watching her play with her sisters because all you hear are echoing laughs and all you see are a ton of hugs! They have an unmistakable connection that’s bonded between forces that are far greater than just shared DNA,’ he continued. ‘It’s literally pure transcendental magic. I didn’t ever want it to end.’

Then, Tyler praised Catelynn for being ‘the strongest woman I’ll ever come to know’ and ‘the BEST MOTHER’.

‘You are the most courageous, loving, wise, and intuitive spirit,’ he added. ‘And this family of ours is beyond blessed to have you as its beautiful matriarch.’

In 2021, the parents also had a touching reunion with Carly to celebrate her 12th birthday after two years of not seeing each other.

On their MTV series, they previously spoke about the hardship of putting her up for adoption and maintaining a relationship with Carly as well as being respectful to her adoptive parents.
