Angelina Jolie told a very personal family story while accepting the Maltin Modern Master Award during the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Thursday.

The 49-year-old nepo-baby was less than a year old in 1976 when her late mother Marcheline Bertrand separated from her famous father Jon Voight after five years of marriage amid adultery allegations.

Three years later, Marcheline tuned into ABC to watch the 51st Academy Awards where she saw her estranged husband (the divorce was finalized in 1980) win the Oscar for best actor for his role in Coming Home.

‘My mom was home with two little kids. My mom’s dream was to be an actor,’ Angelina recalled onstage the Arlington Theatre.

‘She was in her twenties, because she had me when she was very young. She was divorced to a very famous man and she was home with her babies in an apartment watching him win an Oscar with the other woman.’

The mistress was none other than actress Stacey Pickren, who co-starred with the 86-year-old Megalopolis star in three films – Coming Home, Lookin’ to Get Out, and Runaway Train.

‘It was kind of just a part of our family history,’ Jolie explained.

‘I remember thinking that [Bertrand] was there for me and my brother and that was the choice she made. And how she must have felt on that night always really stuck with me.’

So when the former Hollywood wildchild won the best supporting actress Oscar in 2000, she immediately called her beloved mother, who died in 2007 at age 56 after an eight-year battle against ovarian and breast cancer.

‘To have that moment, to get off that stage and call her and say, “It’s yours” — and I gave it to her — one of the best moments of my life,’ Angelina smiled.

In 2002, Jolie legally removed her surname and continued to have a fractured on/off relationship with Voight – despite the apple not falling far from the tree.

For instance, the thrice-divorced mother-of-six cheated on her Playing God co-star Timothy Hutton with her Pushing Tin co-star Billy Bob Thornton, who was engaged to Laura Dern before they suddenly eloped to Las Vegas in 2000.

Angelina then notoriously fell in love with her Mr. & Mrs. Smith leading man Brad Pitt in 2004 while he was still married to wife Jennifer Aniston, but they didn’t go public until three months after the couple legally separated in 2005.

On Thursday, Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay presented Jolie with the festival’s highest honor dedicated ‘to individuals who have enriched our culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry.’

Maria marked the third and final film in Pablo’s trilogy of iconic women, succeeding Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021), which scored both Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart Oscar nominations.

The Tony-winning producer – who had never sung onscreen or in public – spent seven months training with vocal coach Eric Vetro and prosthetics designer Arjen Tuiten gave her a slightly larger, yet still negligible nose.

Angelina – who recently sH๏τ her role in Alice Winocour’s Paris-set drama Sтιтches – has yet to announce a release date for her sixth directorial effort Without Blood, which will be distributed worldwide by Fremantle.
