Angelina Jolie may have no love lost for her third husband Brad Pitt, though the actress revealed she is still close to her first hubby, Jonny Lee Miller.

The 49-year-old actress accepted the Maltin Modern Master award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday.

She spoke at length about her career with film critic Leonard Maltin, with the retrospective starting with her 1995 film Hackers, one of her first, where she first met Miller.

‘I was just saying to somebody, it’s really funny because I think you’re starting with Hackers, right?’ Jolie said at the festival (via People).

 ‘Yeah, it’s Jonny. I just talked to him. I love that — I get to see my ex-husband with 2,000 people,’ she joked.

After a clip from Hackers was played, Jolie added, ‘Amazing. It’s so nice to see it. Actually, it’s funny, I don’t really watch my own films, and so I [don’t] think I’ve seen it since the premiere. But I do have a wonderful relationship with Jonny, and he and I have sons the same age and I’m so happy.’

Jolie and Miller tied the knot in March 1996 though they split in February 1999 and the divorce was finalized in early 2000.

The divorce was finalized shortly before Jolie’s three-year marriage to Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.

Miller would go on to star in Trainspotting a year after Hackers and ultimately settled down with actress and fashion model Michelle Hicks.

The two were married in July 2008 in Malibu, and they share 16-year-old son Buster, who is roughly the same age as Jolie’s son Knox Leon. 

Miller and Hicks ultimately split in 2016 and their divorce was finalized in 2018, with Jolie making headlines in 2021 when she visited Miller’s apartment in New York City.

The exes were joined by their sons Buster and Knox, with the exes kids reportedly good friends.

That year Jolie also gushed about Miller in an interview with The Guardian, where she praised him for helping her get away from disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

‘I had to escape [Weinstein]. I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him.”

The divorce was finalized shortly before Jolie’s three-year marriage to Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.

Miller told The Independent in January 2024 that he remembered, ‘feeling fury,’ when Jolie told him about Weinstein’s abusive ways.

‘I actually wanted to be more proactive about it, but it was 100 percent her decision and you have to swallow your male bulls***,’ he said.

Miller most recently starred in A Mirror on the stage in London at the Trafalgar Theatre in 2024.
