Cyndi Lauper wraps up in all-black ensemble at Kinky Boots party in Manchester after revealing regrets over her Glastonbury performance ahead of farewell tour

Cyndi Lauper ditched her usual colourful palette as she donned an all-black ensemble at a Kinky Boots party in Manchester on Tuesday night.

The singer, 71, commanded attention during the glitzy event at The Palace Theatre in a black belted coat and black maxi dress, adding a pair of black boots.

She did provide a shock of colour with her cyan locks, which were tied up, and matched the hairdo with a ring on her right hand of the same hue.

Cyndi was joined at the star-studded night out by Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton, 41, who donned a black v-neck ʙuттon-up mini dress with black тιԍнтs and knee-high black boots.

Actress Catherine Tyldesley, 41, meanwhile sported a long pine green coat over a black midi dress with red flecks, completing the look with pointy black boots.

Coronation Street star Cait Fitton, 22, wore a black leather jacket over a red turtleneck jumper, adding a pair of light blue baggy jeans.

Gethin Jones, Rob Mallard and John Whaite also showed up on the red carpet for the event.

The Broadway and West End phenomenon, Kinky Boots The Musical, debuted in Manchester on Tuesday and sees Cyndi provide the music and lyrics.

The pop icon’s appearance comes after she broke her silence on last year’s Glastonbury performance which was hit by sound issues and suffered ‘a mᴀss walk out’ of concert-goers.

The Girls Just Want To Have Fun singer suffered horrendous sound problems during her appearance at the iconic festival at Worthy Farm in June 2024.

Festival goers were left struggling to hear her typically jaw-dropping vocals as they complained her voice was drowned out by rumbling bᴀss.

She told the Sunday Times last month: ‘I couldn’t hear the band and that sucked. I wanted to be really great.’

Cyndi revealed that the ordeal had an impact on the timing her upcoming farewell tour as she confessed that she wanted to leave with a ‘big goodbye’.

Cyndi said: ‘I want to say goodbye big, you know? There is an art to standing still and singing, and I do not have that talent.

‘So I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to do the kind of performance that I feel is right.’

After a few songs during her Glastonbury set, Cyndi performed Rocking Chair and she seemed to struggle with her pitch and timing.

The sound issues appeared to have been resolved by the time she got to her hit I Drove All Night.

But Cyndi faltered again on her 1984 track Time After Time as she lagged behind the band – suggesting she was having trouble with her in-ear monitors.

The singer was seen looking at members of the production team by the side of the Pyramid stage as she continued to put on a show for the audience.

The crowd came to the rescue lifting Cyndi up as they sang along to her best known hits, True Colors and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Despite the issues, Cyndi, who has more than 40 years of stage experience under her belt, was every inch the professional.
