The cast of Coronation Street have revealed that real explosives were used during the filming of the tragic Platt family fire scene.
The soap was rocked by a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly fire in recent scenes as a mysterious arsonist started a blaze that left the Platts’ home in tatters.
A new clip of the cast filming the dramatic scene has given fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the fire was achieved.
As they filmed the scene, Julia Goulding and Jack Shepherd, who play Shona and David Platt, revealed that the explosives were in fact real.
‘We’ve just had a test blow up and it was pretty mint wasn’t it,’ Shona said, before Jack added: ‘It was very loud, they gave us little ear plugs. Now I didn’t put any in.’
Shona continued: ‘We’re going to be in the thick of it. We wanted to know what the whole experience was going to be like. And what I found really weird was the way it hit my body.’

‘Yeah the sort of gas explosions,’ Jack added. ‘They are using real explosives as well.’
The clip shows the cast filming the scene where David tries to run back into the house before he is pulled back.
Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, appeared on screen as she said: ‘Big fire at the Platt’s so there’s all these flames and firemen helping them to put out the flames.
‘You need lots of layers to prepare for the night shift I mean you could be like “Oh I’m so sad” – but I think the first thing is making sure there’s enough snacks, hand warmers, foot warmers, body warmers – packs that you put on your body – lots of thermals, fleecy тιԍнтs.’
The tragic scene where Toyah is carried out of the house amid the fire is then filmed as the flames burn.
Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, then says of filming: ‘I have never done anything of this scale before.
‘I think I’ve done some, well I’ve certainly done night shoots, I’ve done stunts and things like that, but this is the first time I’ve actually seen real fire on a set. That’s very exciting. It’s a bit cold.’
A huge blaze ripped through the Platts’ house this week, destroying not only bricks and mortar but also the lives of David and Shona’s family and those close to them.

When the fire was proven to be arson, some of the street’s best known residents started to feel the heat and found themselves forced to try and convince the police of their innocence.
Viewers saw a mysterious hooded figure pushing a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox of Number Eight, starting the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly blaze.
With no sign of Toyah or the kids as the fire took hold, it became evident that there may have been people trapped inside.
Worried that Lily may be inside, Max, Shona and Nick headed into the inferno.
Fighting the flames, Nick found Toyah unconscious on the floor and tried to get her to safety. Meanwhile, Shona and Max checked upstairs.
Later out on the Street, Shona was relieved to discover that Lily was safe but worried that Max was trapped in the burning building.
As David arrived, Shona told him Max was still inside and the pair rushed towards the house, only for an explosion to blow them off their feet.

As the emergency services arrived, they attended to Toyah, who had suffered smoke inhalation and has a head wound.
The firefighters later found Max unresponsive in the house, and as he was carried out, David could only look on in horror.
Max was then lifted into an ambulance and David climbed in with him, terrified for his son’s life.
At the hospital, a suspicious Shona quizzed David about the fire, but he promised that he had nothing to do with it.
Kit arrived and confirmed that the fire was arson, and David was quick to tell him that Logan Radcliffe was clearly the culprit.
Later, David broke down and told Shona that this was all his fault as he stole Harvey’s money.
