Cyndi Lauper breaks her silence on problem-plagued Glastonbury performance and reveals the reason why she kick started her farewell tour

Cyndi Lauper has broken her silence on her Glastonbury performance after it was hit by sound issues and suffered ‘a mᴀss walk out’ of concert-goers.

The Girls Just Want To Have Fun singer, 71, suffered horrendous sound issues during her appearance at the iconic festival at Worthy Farm in June 2024.

Festival goers were left struggling to hear her typically jaw-dropping vocals as they complained her voice was drowned out by rumbling bᴀss.

And now she has broken her silence and opened up to The Sunday Times about the ordeal as she shared her regret over what happened.

She told the publication: ‘I couldn’t hear the band and that sucked. I wanted to be really great.’

Cyndi revealed that the ordeal had an impact on the timing her upcoming farewell tour as she confessed that she wanted to leave with a ‘big goodbye’.

Cyndi said: ‘I want to say goodbye big, you know? There is an art to standing still and singing, and I do not have that talent.’

‘So I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to do the kind of performance that I feel is right.’

After a few songs during her Glastonbury set, Cyndi performed Rocking Chair and she seemed to struggle with her pitch and timing.

The sound issues appeared to have been resolved by the time she got to her hit I Drove All Night.

But Cyndi faltered again on her 1984 track Time After Time as she lagged behind the band – suggesting she was having trouble with her in-ear monitors.

The singer was seen looking at members of the production team by the side of the Pyramid stage as she continued to put on a show for the audience.

The crowd came to the rescue lifting Cyndi up as they sang along to her best known hits, True Colors and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Despite the issues, Cyndi, who has more than 40 years of stage experience under her belt, was every inch the professional.

‘So I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to do the kind of performance that I feel is right.’

The American pop legend began her last ever tour in October, 11 years after her She’s So Unusual: 30th Anniversary Tour.

Cyndi will be in the UK by February 2025, and is set to perform in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Belfast.

The tour will then continue onto Budapest, Lodz in Poland, Prague, Berlin, Dusseldorf and Paris.

The True Colours hitmaker will be accompanied on tour by a series of special guests, who will be announced closer to the time.

The news comes after Cyndi’s documentary, Let The Canary Sing, detailing her rise to fame at 30, premiered exclusively in the U.S. and Canada on June 4.

In celebration of the documentary and the tour, Cyndi left her hand and footprints at the prestigious TCL Chinese Theatre Hollywood in Los Angeles.

She was joined by her sister and Sharon Osbourne at the premiere and Cher and Bebe Rhexa at the ceremony.
