Reese Witherspoon has claimed an unnamed actress is no longer friends with her after she ‘roasted’ her in a speech at a ‘classy’ British awards event.

And fans have been left convinced that Kate Winslet is the star embroiled in the secret feud with her.

Legally Blonde star Reese, 48, remained тιԍнт-lipped about the actress’ idenтιтy while speaking to PEOPLE, but fans believe they have uncovered the truth after discovering she honoured the тιтanic star, 49, at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in 2007. 

So what did Reese actually say that was so bad?  

Admitting she ‘misjudged’ the tone of the event, Reese, in her joke-filled speech,  poked fun at Kate’s accent and ɴuᴅᴇ scene in 2001 film Iris. 

Not to mention a quip about ‘laser hair removal,’ which she had mentioned in her new interview, leaving fans convinced they were correct guessing Kate’s idenтιтy .

According to JustJared, who uncovered parts of the transcript, Reese had told the crowd that she couldn’t share any personal stories about her and Kate because ‘they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell.’

Reese had said she couldn’t share any personal stories about her and Kate because ‘they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell’ and also referenced laser hair removal , something that happened when they were both in their underwear and nudity 

She also reportedly recalled ‘the time [the pair] contemplated laser hair removal and… or that time on the freeway when they pulled over and.. or that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear.’ 

According to the site the speech began: ‘I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglᴀsses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas,’ 

‘Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my door bell and said, (insert British accent here) “Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?”

She then went on speak about Kate’s ‘fearlessness’ when it came to her famous ɴuᴅᴇ scene: ‘When I saw her in and she took off all her clothes and jumped into that lake, I thought, “Wow, I bet that lake is really cold.” And then I thought, “Wow, There’s an actor without fear,”‘

In her new interview this week The Big little Lies star explained the unnamed actress  asked her to speak at the event on her behalf.

‘We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore,’ she said. ‘I think she doesn’t like me anymore.’

Along with the star’s name, Reese did not reveal the name of the ceremony or when it took place.

‘So this friend of mine — who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress — she asked me to give her an award,’ she explained.

‘But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.’

However, she quickly realised that her ‘funny’ speech wasn’t landing with the event’s audience’ and said the experience ‘still haunts her’

‘The tone [of the event] was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!” Reese recalled with a laugh.

She added: ‘I’m still embarrᴀssed about it. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience,’ she said of the speech.

‘It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well,’ the Oscar-winner concluded.

While Reese refused to share the idenтιтy of her former actress pal, she was less тιԍнт-lipped when it came to dishing about the highly-anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series.

She told PEOPLE this week that production on the TV series will begin in March 2025.

Legally Blonde was released in 2001, with Witherspoon playing the iconic role of sorority girl-turned-lawyer Elle Woods.

The hit film also starred the likes of Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair and Luke Wilson. 

The sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde was released in 2003.

‘I’m really excited. We start in March,’ she  gushed about spin-off series on. ‘I’m really excited because we’re going through the casting process right now and we’re picking who is going to play the young me. It’s kind of a trip,’

‘It’s so exciting too, to watch these young girls that are so filled with enthusiasm and excitement and completely… There’s so many good ones. That’s the hard thing because there’s so many good people to choose from,’ she added.
