The Kooks wow fans at exclusive London club night as they release first single in three years

The Kooks wowed fans at an exclusive Indie club night in west London on Thursday night ahead of the release of their first single in three years.

The band unveiled a new hit, Never Know, on Friday just months before they lift the lid on their seventh studio album Never/Know on May 9.

The song marks a return to form for the rock band, who topped the charts in 2008 with their second record Konk.

And they gave fanatics an insight into the latest direction they are taking at an event in Notting Hill, with lead singer Luke Pritchard and lead guitarist Hugh Harris taking to the stage for a special performance.

Before that, attendees had been treated to a DJ set filled with indie bangers of old in a throwback to the era in which The Kooks burst onto the scene.

When Luke and Hugh stepped up, their stage presence was as electric as ever, with both picking up their guitars and singing their hearts out for the memorable night.

Speaking about their latest hit, Luke said: ‘It’s a love song about a cute meet with someone unpredictable. I like the idea of it being played in a convertible on a road trip somewhere ridiculous. Because really, you never know

Friday’s new single comes ahead of an 11-track record, their first since 10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark in 2022, and features a cover of Wings’ Arrow Through Me.

Of the new album, the frontman said: ‘It’s not about going back to the first album’s sound, but to the roots of our influences and asking, “What is the idenтιтy of this band?”

‘The whole thing was to just forget that the past had happened.’

The band is set to announce a UK and US tour later this year, having sold out their concerts in America last time they crossed the Atlantic.

Luke has credited social media with expanding their image across the world and pointed out that the song Naive, from their 2006 debut album Inside In/Inside Out had reached number 66 in the world on Spotify, where they boast seven million monthly listeners, 18 years after its release.
