He stunned fans and doubters alike by running 30 sand marathons in 30 days last year, breaking a Guinness World Record in the process.
But Spencer Matthews admitted his past hedonistic days indulging in alcohol and causing chaos as the villain in Made In Chelsea often left his parents disappointed.
The TV star, 36, told the Mirror that his mother and father, entrepeneur David Matthews and artist Jane Spencer Parker, were not always best pleased with his antics during his younger years.
He said: ‘There were certainly times in my life where I was pretty far from where I wanted to be and there was a bit of disappointment behind my parents’ eyes from time to time.
‘But, completing the 30 marathons in the desert changed that and a lot in my life.’
Spencer achieved the extaordinary feat in Jordan last August and already has plans to do seven Ironman-style triathlons across seven continents.

He said: ‘Quite a lot of self-loathing that I carried around with me, and quite a lot of shame, just evaporated after the marathons. It’s a very different way of feeling.’
The entrepeneur was well known for his party boy lifestyle but gave up alcohol in 2018, the same year he married Vogue Williams.
He first developed a problem when working as a city trader, drinking five to ten pints every day before taking clients out.
The hard-partying habits made him an attractive prospect for the Made In Chelsea casting team – and he more than delivered in terms of living the playboy lifestyle.
Often seen knocking back the drinks on the successful Channel 4 show, Spencer’s most iconic moment arguably came when he and Louise Thompson had a very public breakup on Putney Bridge.
In one of the most memorable moments of the Channel 4 show the reality TV star turned entrepreneur, now 34, met Louise on Putney Bridge where they ended their relationship in explosive fashion after his infidelity had come to light.
During the very heated shouting match Spencer said to the now influencer, 34: ‘It’s very hard to respect you when you allow me to cheat on you’.

He added: ‘At the time I was a heavy drinker and there was a change in the wind and our relationship was very toxic at the time and it meant we had a huge screaming match that I really regret.’

Spencer’s joining the cast of Made In Chelsea when he was 19 – then becoming a regular in the tabloid press due to his ‘antics’ – was frowned upon in his social circles.
‘My family have always loved me but I was the rogue black sheep,’ he said. ‘I was out every night, getting up to God knows what.
‘If my son turned out like I was, I’d lock him in a room somewhere. It would be awful.’
He has since devoted himself to fitness, both through his long-distance running and business ventures which have seen him launch CleanCo non-alcoholic spirits.
