Great British Menu fans all have the same complaint about BBC show’s ‘laughable’ dishes – but who’s in the right?

Great British Menu fans sank their claws into the show’s ‘laughable’ dishes on last night’s episode of the BBC show.

Contestants Jack, Eddie and Liv battled it out while creating main courses and desserts for chef Paul Ainsworth inspired by renowned Brits.

For mains, Jack cooked lamb Cumberland sausages and barbecue ribs in a nod to author Alfred Wainwright, while Eddie crafted black garlic and tofu ragu rosette in tribute to suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

Liv went for a dish of liver, bacon and cabbage in homage to Cilla Black and her favourite meal.

Despite the meals being mostly praised by the chefs, some viewers couldn’t get over the tiny size of the dishes.

One fan posted on X: ‘Always makes me laugh how they make a big bowlful & then each portion is about a teaspoon. #greatbritishmenu.’

Another commented: ‘That’s a kids portion #GreatBritishMenu.’

Someone else chimed in: ‘That’s a side salad, not a main course. #greatbritishmenu.’

A fourth said: ‘When will the chefs learn that it is supposed to be a banquet not three random things on a plate #greatbritishmenu.’

After also crafting desserts, Liv scored the least amount of points and left the compeтιтion, while Jack and Eddie made it to the next round.

Paul said: ‘Liv, I think you’re wicked and I really think you’ve done Liverpool so proud.’

He went on to add: ‘Jack, Eddie, I really wish you all the best with the judges and as I’ve said all week, this has been my first time judging the North West and I’ve been blown away.’

It comes after the new series recently started with a new line-up of judges as Scottish chef Lorna McNee joins Tom Kerridge and Ed Gamble on the panel.

Former Great British Menu Champion Lorna will replace Nisha Katona, who confirmed she’s stepping down from the role after three years as a judge.

In a statement, Nisha gushed how she ‘loved’ her time on the show and will miss her co-stars ‘terribly.

She shared: ‘I absolutely loved the time I was lucky enough to spend on Great British Menu.

‘It is with the heaviest of hearts that I pᴀss on this most delicious of batons. I will miss my wonderful brother judges and the fantastic crew terribly. I loved every moment I was fortunate enough to spend with them.’

Meanwhile Lorna, who is a renowned chef at Glasgow’s Cail Bruich restaurant, revealed her excitement for her new job and told of her ‘surprise’ to have been asked.

She shared: ‘Winning Great British Menu back in 2018 made a huge difference to my career as a chef and was partly behind me becoming Chef Director at Cail Bruich, so I know just how much the compeтιтion means to Britain’s chefs.

‘Being invited to join the judges this year was a total surprise but a delight and I’m loving the chance to help choose this year’s banquet finalists.

‘Tom, Ed and Andi have made me feel very welcome, and I’m also meeting some amazing guest judges every week – each of whom has been invited to help us choose the dishes representing their areas to go with this year’s theme of UK Heroes.’

Great British Menu airs on BBC Two and can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
