Jack Nicholson’s daughter Lorraine has made rare comments about her father’s highly publicized on-off romance with Lara Flynn Boyle.

Hollywood icon Nicholson, 87 and Twin Peaks star Boyle, 54, sparked up a romance in 1999 – with their relationship ending for good in 2004. 

Lorraine, 34, whose mom is actress and model Rebecca Broussard, 62, said Boyle became her ‘role model’ and dubbed her the ‘Mary Poppins of Mulholland Drive’ when she was dating her actor father in a scandalous 33 year age gap romance.

In a profile for Vanity Fair, she said: ‘When I was nine, my best friend was 30-year-old ingénue Lara Flynn Boyle.  Their union was presented as something to be ashamed of, inspiring the kind of tsk-tsk condemnation that belies the thrill of imagining such a life.

Describing her unconventional ‘hippie California ethos’ upbringing, she said: ‘We would drive golf balls into the canyons. We’d eat dinner after 9 p.m. And though we never saw him, my brother and I lived in constant terror of our reclusive neighbor Marlon Brando.’

Lorraine, who has younger brother Ray Nicholson, 32, said she first connected with Boyle over feelings of insecurity over their appearances, with Lorraine feeling she was not as beautiful as her mom Broussard.

She wrote: ‘With extrasensory intuition, she sensed I was a self-harmer and told me stories about the time she had to wear knee socks to hide her scratched-up shins.’

‘Lara made me feel like my pain mattered. In interviews from the period, Lara explained that her father abandoned her when she was six years old. Her mother had to work three jobs and enlisted Lara to help pick up the bodies of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ rodents in a building where she worked. 

‘While the unavailability of my parents was not exactly rats-in-trash-bags level, I was a kid who felt, despite everything I had materially, there was something missing in my life. Lara did not belittle these feelings.’

She said she had ‘grabbed onto Lara like she was made of glue’ and although she knew her dad’s romance with the actress ‘couldn’t last forever’ she had ‘no clue what I would do without her.’

Lorraine contacted Boyle – who has since retreated from the spotlight – to ask if they could speak for the first time in 20 years but her request was denied. 

She wrote of the denial: ‘Of course, this feels like being rejected by Mommy. But the truth is, whether I see Lara again or not is almost irrelevant, because I carry so much of her in me. When she descended from the sky with her magic carpet bag, I was still figuring out the type of woman I wanted to be. In Lara, I saw characteristics that I liked—her irreverent sense of humor, her refusal to conform, her compᴀssion for the underdog—and made them my own. Or, to quote the last words Lara ever said to me, “I’ll always have you in my heart, baby.”

In July 2024 Boyle made a rare comment about her past romance with  Nicholson, who she referred to as a ‘huge part of’ her life.

While reflecting on their on-again, off-again relationship the actress raved that she views it as ‘seven years of great times.’ 

‘It’s seven years of wonderful,’ the Davenport native, who married Texas real estate investor, Donald Ray Thomas, back in 2006, elaborated. 

Although Boyle said she no longer hangs out with the three-time Oscar winner she did confirm to People that they still keep in touch. 

As for how her former flame is doing now, the Emmy nominee stated that Nicholson was out ‘making magic.’

‘The world of Jack is always here. There’s no retiring for the world of Jack. Never,’ she said, despite Nicholson not appearing in a film since 2010’s How Do You Know. 

Flynn also took the opportunity to shut down the claims that she met Nicholson while out with her then-boyfriend David Spade.

Back in 2015, the Saturday Night Live alum alleged that ‘Nicholson asked Lara Flynn Boyle out in front of me, while we were all smoking a doob somewhere.’ 

He recalled to Details that Boyle ‘got mad’ because he didn’t tell Nicholson to stop. 

Spade, then, insisted he had been ‘in this town long enough to know when’ he’s ‘outranked.’ 

In response to telling Boyle that she was ‘either gonna go out with him or’ not, Spade claimed she said: ‘No way. He’s worse than Trump!’ 

 Three decades later, Boyle emphatically shut down the story as she insisted that ‘never happened.’ 

‘I think certain people like to embellish that for publicity,’ she said. 

Following her relationship with Nicholson, Boyle said she never dated another movie star. 

‘I left with a bang when it came to actors,’ she mused.

In December, the actress, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Texas, and her husband will celebrate 18 years of marriage.

While speaking about her long-lasting marriage, she credited its longevity to ‘honesty, maturity, experience and respect.’ 

‘A lot of it is growing up,’ she said. ‘A lot of it is when you’re ready, and I’ve been so fortunate, I’ve had so many lovely gentleman callers. I have had a blast, and I have just met wonderful men to have time with and to learn with and grow with. It was just the right timing.’ 

Lara, who was born in Iowa, moved to California to work as a child actress in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day off.

She then went on to appear in Amerika in 1987 then ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Poets Society in 1989.

Flynn is best known for portraying Donna Hayward in the hit series Twin Peaks; seen in 1990

She became famous when she landed the role of Donna Hayward in Twin Peaks from 1990 until 1991.

In the 1990s she appeared in several movies including Threesome, Afterglow, then returned to TV with The Practice in 1997.

In 2002, she had luck in movies again opposite Will Smith in Men In Black II then went on to work in Huff.

But in 2005, she was back to TV with Las Vegas with Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims. In 2009 she was in Baby On Board then later in Life Is H๏τ In Cracktown. 

She is next set to appear in the film, Mother, Couch, which comes out this Friday. 

Prior to dating Nicholson and Spade, she was in a relationship with Twin Peaks costar Kyle MacLachlan and was briefly married to John Patrick Dee III between 1996 to 1998.
