Coronation Street FIRST LOOK: The Platts’ home to be rocked by a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly fire in explosive scenes – but who is to blame?

Coronation Street is set to be rocked by a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly fire in upcoming scenes, as a mysterious arsonist starts a blaze that leaves the Platts’ home in tatters.

A huge blaze will rip through the Platts house next week, destroying not only bricks and mortar but also the lives of David and Shona’s family and those close to them.

When the fire is proven to be arson, some of the street’s best known residents start to feel the heat and find themselves forced to try and convince the police of their innocence.

Viewers will see a mysterious hooded figure we see pushing a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox of Number Eight, starting the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly blaze.

With no sign of Toyah or the kids as the fire takes hold, it becomes evident that there may be people trapped inside.

As Nick, Shona and Max head into the inferno, will they all make it out alive as a huge explosion rocks the street?

The scenes, which begin on Monday February 3, sees the Platt family gathering at the Bistro for Sarah’s birthday.

Bored at the adult party, Hope, Ruby, Lily and Sam sneak into number 8 and start to live stream a seance.

Spotting the live stream and seeing matches on the video, Toyah races over to the house and throws the kids out.

Meanwhile Abi is on the warpath having realised Toyah shopped her to social services and seeing her at number 8 heads inside to confront her.

Abi has been struggling with PTSD after watching teen Mason succumb to his injuries after being stabbed by a zombie, with the ordeal bringing back horrific memories of the death of her own son Seb.

Caught up in a PTSD episode, she lashes out at Toyah, knocking her unconscious before fleeing the house.

Did she come back and start the fire to cover up the attack on Toyah?

Also creeping round the cobbles is a drunken Leanne, feeling lonely and angry at the world… but could she be responsible for the devastating inferno?

David could also be to blame, as his feud with gang lord Harvey has ramped up a gear in recent weeks, with his wife Shona already having been kidnapped as a warning.

Both David and Harvey will remain suspects of the blaze, with questions other whether the former has gone to extreme lengths to get the money from the house insurance to repay the money he stole.

Corrie has been hit by a shocking cast exodus in recent weeks, with seven stars revealing over the past month they’re set to leave the show.

It appears the ITV soap is in trouble due to an alleged cash crisis and a revolt from the cast over poor working conditions and low salaries.

Since November, Charlotte Jordan, Sue Cleaver, Sue Devaney, Colson Smith, and Luca Toolan — have all announced they will be leaving the show.

New boss Kate had previously warned that multiple characters face the axe as she told of several ‘unexpected exits’ coming up this year.

The producer, who previously took the helm at Emmerdale, recently opened up about her plans for Weatherfield and its residents in 2025.

And while there’s plenty of sizzling storylines and drama to come, there are several cast members who won’t get to see this as their characters are set to leave the show in a move that is tipped to send ‘shockwaves’ throughout the show.

Speaking to The Sun and other press, Kate explained of the upcoming plans: ‘There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.’

It comes after it was reported that stars are set to be offered shorter contracts amid the soap’s declining viewing figures and financial woes.

Corrie only pulled in 2.6million viewers for its Christmas Day special which saw Gail Platt (Helen Worth) leave after 50 years on the show.

And last week, The Sun claimed that producers may now only guarantee contracts until the end of 2025 amid тιԍнтened budgets.

A source told the publication: ‘The cast of Corrie is huge and some aren’t getting enough episodes.

‘A few paid per episode are struggling to pay mortgages are having to supplement income with personal appearances and ads on Instagram.

‘A lot of cast members are now on ‘guest contracts’ like Maureen Lipman and Kate Ford. These are short term, so they can come and go and take extended breaks. The cast have been told they can’t guarantee any contracts beyond the end of 2025.’

Coronation Street on on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on ITVX from 7am.
