Alan Carr reveals terrifying health scare that has left him fearing for his sight as he prepares to have his eyeballs DRAINED

Alan Carr has opened up about a frightening health ordeal that has left him fearing for his sight, revealing that his eyeballs needed draining due to excessive pressure.

The much-loved comedian, 48, shared details of the scare on his Life’s A Beach podcast, including a surreal hospital procedure involving a spike being inserted into his anesthetised eye.

Speaking to Grace Campbell, on an episode of his Life’s A Beach podcast, Alan explained: ‘I’ve got astigmatism – I kept telling people I had stigmata, like the wounds of Christ. Get over yourself, Alan.

‘I had a bit of a health scare. I went to Moorfields [eye hospital]. I’ve got something wrong with my eyes – quite a bit of pressure.

The Chatty Man host described his shock when doctors told him to relax while a spike was brought closer to his cornea.

‘They said, ‘Just relax, Alan, concentrate on the spike going into your eye.’ I thought, ‘Excuse me? What?!’ It was surreal.’

‘I hate the glaucoma thing, when they squirt the air in your eyes.

‘I had something wrong with my eyes in the cornea. I was so worried.’

Alan added: ‘He had to basically choke me because this air going into my eye was too much.

‘At Moorfields they anaesthetised my eyeball, and then the spike came in on to the lens to see if it worked.

Alan admitted the experience left him shaken, as losing his sight is his worst fear.

‘They said: ‘Just relax Alan, and just concentrate on the spike going into your eye.’ I’m like excuse me? What? Oh good, the spike is coming closer. Relax!

‘It was so surreal. Losing my sight is my worst thing, and I can feel it getting worse.

‘My eyeballs need draining – they’ve got too much pressure.’

It’s not the only thing fans are rejoicing about, as he and Amanda Holden are back with their new renovation series, Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job.

The celebrity pair have been busy filming the second season of their BBC renovations show over the last couple of months.

After a successful Italian series, the best friends have reunited this time in the sun-kissed hills of Andalusia and embark on their first ever Spanish renovation job.

In the teaser trailer, Amanda and Alan are stood enjoying a drink on a castle as they overlook a stunning landscape during sunset.

Reflecting on their time together, Alan explained that when his dad ‘made a bit of money’ they came to Spain to places like Alicante and Benidorm, but this was the first time he had been inland.

Amanda then asked Alan if he had ever gone camping, before joking about one of her favourite moments from her childhood holidays.

She explained: ‘We had a tent and we had to wait for my mum and dad to pitch.

‘My favourite noise in the world is hearing a zip go up.’

‘I bet it is,’ Alan quipped before they both ended up in fits of laughter.

‘I thought it be going down knowing you,’ he swiped, taking the joke in a more X-rated direction.

In the new series, viewers will watch Amanda as she takes a gamble on a run-down three-storey townhouse and convinces Alan to join her in a lifelong dream of transforming it into a boutique B&B.

But with over 2,000 square feet to deal with, a roof that needs some repair, and a crumbling outbuilding on its last legs, it soon dawns on them that the task may be too big to handle.

Away from the DIY, Amanda and Alan will of course throw themselves into the Spanish traditions.

They’ll travel the breadth of Andalusia to discover the rich, varied landscape of the Sierra Nevada mountains, whitewashed coastal villages and historic Moorish towns.

Watch Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job at 8pm on BBC One.
