Brie Larson covers up new pixie cut with quirky snood as she leaves London theatre after making West End debut in Elektra

Brie Larson covered up her new pixie cut with a quirky snood as she left a theatre in London after making her West End debut in Elektraa on Friday.

The Oscar-winner, 35, hid her short hairdo with the lemon-coloured garment, leaving just her face on display.

She kept warm on a chilly London night with a thick black belted coat over an orange shirt and added black trousers.

Brie completed the look with a pair of cream moccasins and toted a khaki rucksack over one shoulder.

The Room star was attending the opening night of her new play Elektra at the Duke of York’s Theatre, which is an adaptation of Sophocles’s classic story about a woman riddled with guilt and anger at her father’s ᴀssᴀssination.

It comes after Brie made jaws drop as she debuted her bold new hairstyle in November.

She looked near-unrecognisable as she took to Instagram to reveal that she had dyed her long golden blonde locks black and chopped it into a pixie cut.

Her drastic change came as she geared up to act as the infamous character in the Greek tragedy play, marking her West End debut.

‘Elektra is here,’ she said in the caption.

The original 420BC play followed bereaved Elektra as things took a nail-biting turn when her long lost brother Orestes returned.

Elektra was staged at Theatre Royal Brighton from January 13 to 18, 2025 before it moved to London for an 11-week season from January 24 to April 12.

The forthcoming adaptation was created by poet Anne Carson and directed by Oklahoma!’s Daniel Fish.

Earlier this year, Brie told Variety she ‘couldn’t be more excited’ when announcing she had accepted the role.

‘I couldn’t be more excited to perform in this Greek drama, or in better company collaborating with Daniel Fish and Anne Carson,’ she gushed.

‘Storytelling has always been the way I organise life, feelings and experiences. I look forward to sharing space with the wonderful West End audience while we explore this timeless story.’

During the interview, Daniel praised the actress’ skills as she steps into the role of Elektra.

He said: ‘What is ancient and what is contemporary? Carson’s translation explodes this question.

‘It is a thrilling challenge to work on Sophocles’ tragedy, by way of Carson’s words, and on the beautiful stage of The Duke of York’s with Brie Larson.’

Empire Street Productions is taking on the project with Annie-B Parson acting as choreographer and Jeremy Herbert leading set design.

Costume design was headed by Doey Lüthi, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Max and Ben Ringham and Ted Hearne acting as composer.

Heather Basten was the casting director with voice and dialect by Kate Godfrey and costume supervision from Deborah Andrews.

Back in June, Brie said she was ‘grateful for the rejection’ endured during her ‘slow burn’ career before winning an Oscar at age 25 for Room.

‘It gave me so much experience so that when I was given the opportunities, I was truly ready for it,’ she told Variety for their Actors On Actors edition.

The Captain Marvel star continued, ‘I mean, I’m so grateful that I had so much rejection growing up. It’s wild! I very much had a slow burn in my career.

‘I’d get close to things, so I knew that I had something, but I wasn’t booking, or I’d book one job a year or something – just enough to give me hope.’

Two years after Room, she entered the sphere of mainstream Hollywood tentpoles with Kong: Skull Island, acting alongside Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson.

In 2019 Brie made her thunderous debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the leading lady of Captain Marvel, which earned over $1 billion at the box office.

Brie embarked on a hiatus from acting when she went into lockdown for COVID-19, and she only returned to the movies in 2023 with a superhero role in The Marvels, a  notorious flop, and she also joined the Fast And Furious franchise with Fast X.
