A new series has been quietly added to Netflix and viewers are already raving about it.

The Italian crime drama series Public Disorder was released on the streaming service on January 15, and since its debut, fans have been begging Netflix bosses for more episodes.

The show follows a team of riot police officers as they navigate societal turmoil and personal conflicts after a violent demonstration has irreversible consequences.

The series, based on the 2012 film ACAB, which was adapted from the book of the same name by Carlo Bonini, is set in Rome and Italy’s Susa Valley.

And it appears viewers have already binge-watched the first six episodes as they took to social media to share their thoughts on the new drama.

Posting on IMDB, user Giuseppe said the show was a ‘compelling and stand out crime drama that delves deep into the complexities of law enforcement in Italy’.

He wrote: ‘The show is a triumph of storytelling, expertly capturing the internal and external conflicts that its characters face.’

‘Its ability to blur the lines between good and evil, all while drawing viewers into a raw and visceral world, makes it a truly special experience.’

‘It’s a true noir that will keep you on edge, captivated by the characters and the world they inhabit. It’s just a shame that the series is too short, it leaves you wanting more.’

Meanwhile on X, formerly Twitter, a viewer posted: ‘Really liked Public Disorder. It initially doesn’t look very promising, but slowly becomes more and more engaging.’

While another shared on Reddit: ‘The depth, complexity and overall feeling of unrest is really cool.’

They added: ‘Shows how police officers are also just humans, with their own problems, with their own characters.’

Others encouraged those who enjoyed watching the Italian crime series Gomorrah, which ran from 2014 until 2021 and explored the underworld of Naples, to also give the series a go.

Public Disorder stars include Adriano Giannini (Lonely Planet) as Michele Nobili, Marco Giallini (Perfect Strangers) as Ivano Valenti and Valentina Bellè (Ferrari) as Marta Sarri.

The series begins in Turin when activists opposed to the construction of a new high-speed rail come up against riot police sent in from Rome, with the demonstration becoming violent.

In the chaos, the chief of riot police is left severely injured, leaving an officer determined to reform his department in charge.

Netflix previously teased: ‘As social tensions rise, so do the interpersonal issues among the squad.

‘Will the riot unit be able to rise up amid mounting turmoil among disgruntled protesters, or will the corruption within the department tear them apart?’

Public Disorder season one is available to stream on Netflix now.
