Miley Cyrus’ mother Tish and sister Brandi appeared to take a sly dig at the pop star’s ex-husband Liam Hemsworth this week.

Tish, 57, and Brandi, 37, were commiserating with each other about their romantic history when the topic of Australian men arose.

Brandi has a new Australian boyfriend called Matt South, while Tish’s third and current husband is the Australian actor Dominic Purcell.

After dismissing ‘the majority’ of men as ‘trash,’ Brandi remarked that she had ‘found’ one of the ‘good ones,’ on her and her mother’s podcast Sorry We’re Cyrus.

‘I’m not gonna rag on American men but Australian men are just different,’ said Tish, only for Brandi to say: ‘Not all of ’em,’ prompting both women to lapse into giggles.

Liam, who hails from Melbourne, had a long on-off relationship with Miley that culminated in their marriage of less than a year in 2018 to 2019.

‘Men are trash,’ said Brandi on the podcast. ‘The majority of them are absolute garbage. And they’re all just – men are just so f***ing dense. But there’s a couple of good ones out there I guess, and I think I found one so we love that for me.’

Tish remarked that she had her ‘hopes up’ for Matt, sharing: ‘I’m not gonna rag on American men but Australian men are just different.’

Brandi then cheekily interjected: ‘Not all of ’em,’ and she and her mother both started laughing, while ensuring they did not take any names.

Miley and Liam met on the set of their 2010 movie The Last Song and embarked on an on-off romance, breaking up in 2013 before reuniting in 2015.

Two days before Christmas 2018, they held a secret marriage ceremony at their Tennessee home – only to separate by August 2019.

Miley has since revealed that she realized the relationship had run its course by June 2019, when she played the Glastonbury Festival. 

‘So Glastonbury was in June which was when the decision had been made that me and Liam’s commitment to be married just really came from – a place of love first, because we’ve been together for 10 years – but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could,’ she said on TikTok.

‘The day of the show was the day that I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship,’ she explained.

She also once disclosed that she lost her virginity to Liam aged 16 but ‘lied and said that he wasn’t the first, so I didn’t seem like a loser,’ via Call Her Daddy. 

Meanwhile Tish and Dominic got married in Malibu in 2023, but speculation then quickly started circulating that her daughter Noah, 25, dated him first.

Rumors began flying when it emerged that Noah and her brother Braison had skipped Tish and Dominic’s wedding, which was held at Miley’s Los Angeles home.

‘Noah and Dominic were seeing each other in a friends with benefits way, off and on. They stopped seeing each other and then Tish started something up,’ a source claimed to People. ‘Tish knew he had been seeing Noah.’

‘Noah stopped seeing Dominic and Tish decided to pursue him and did not tell Noah,’ an insider alleged to Entertainment Tonight. 

‘Tish was the one who did not invite Noah and Braison to her wedding, and blocked them on Instagram after she pursued Dominic,’ the source added, accusing Tish of having ‘requested security at her wedding to keep Noah and Braison out.’

The two women were said to have feuded over the issue, but Noah was seen paying a visit to her in July, apparently signaling a potential rapprochement.

Meanwhile Brandi has kept her romance with Matt largely out of the public eye, but his Instagram bio indicates he divides his time between Australia and the United States – specifically Mt. Tamborine, Queensland and Boise, Idaho.
