Sam Thompson has revealed the reason why he hasn’t updated fans about his split from Zara McDermott. 

It was revealed by MailOnline the Zara and Sam had split last month after five years together with the Strictly stunner, 28, recently revealing has has moved out of their Chelsea home. 

And while neither have publicly confirmed the break-up, Sam has recently told how he’s had a ‘tough month’ and explained why he’s yet to directly address the breakdown of his relationship.

Speaking on his latest Staying Relevant podcast with pal Pete Wicks, Sam reflected on his difficult festive period, which saw him ‘alone’ on Christmas Day amid troubles with Zara.

Pete began by referring to an earlier chat they had, saying: ‘My favourite part of speaking to you… I said, “How was your Christmas?” and you went, “Mate, it wasn’t good. It was like being in a Christmas tomb.” One of my favourite sentences of all time’, reports The Sun.

The former TOWIE star then seemingly referred to his pal’s relationship woes directly as he asked: ‘What’s been going on?’, to which Sam replied: ‘The only thing I’m going to say – because it’s not fair on the other parties and stuff – but it’s been a tough month. A real tough month.’

Though he didn’t explicitly mention Zara or their their split, Sam added that he wanted to be ‘respectful’, suggesting he was staying тιԍнт-lipped for Zara’s sake. 

Sam went on to add that his personal dramas led to him being by himself on Christmas Day, with the TV star instead focusing on charitable work.’

Praising his good friend, Pete said: ‘That, I’m honestly very proud of you for. That’s a really lovely thing.’

And while he failed to directly give details about his split, Sam did share that he and Zara has planned to keep the news ‘private’ before the split was revealed the day after New Year’s Day. 

It comes as Zara appeared to take a swipe at her ex Sam as she re-shared a cryptic post on TikTok on Monday. 

Zara reposted a video which alluded that ‘not everyone has the same heart as her’ while questioning why someone ‘did what they did.’

The clip, which was originally posted by account @ewwieeee showed her staring out of the window on a train.

It was captioned: ‘Me reminding myself that not everyone has the same heart as me, but still can’t understand why they did what they did because I would have never done it to them.’

On Instagram, Zara then bemoaned the ‘bluest of Blue Mondays’ by sharing a gallery of summer throwback snaps.

While the images featured the Love Island star basking in the sunshine while on holiday with her loved ones, her ex Sam was noticeably absent.

She captioned the post: ‘The bluiest of blue Mondays has had me scrolling through my summer camera roll all day.’

Elsewhere, fans of the former couple were left cringing after they appeared together Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on Saturday, filmed just days before their split. 

In their final joint TV appearance they were surprised from bed in the early hours by host Michael, 48, as part of his infamous Midnight Gameshow skit, before ushering in a whole host of famous guests.

Sam was reunited with Celebrity SAS’ Jason Fox who challenged him with holding huge weights while being quizzed over his relationship with Zara. 

But when he failed to remember what the Strictly star had bought him as gifts over the years, Jason asked forcefully: ‘Do you actually love her?’.
