Chrissy Teigen advocates for a social media curfew after TikTok ban drama: ‘Life was great before this’

TikTok was blocked in the United States for about 14 hours and once it came back, Chrissy Teigen had an epiphany.

The Deal or No Deal star, 39, recorded a series of videos on her Instagram Stories revealing her idea.

She laid in bed, wrapped in a white towel while she discussed what social media has done to society.

‘I personally think that one day there will be the most incredible rule,’ Chrissy – who evacuated her home with her family during the LA fires – began in the video.

‘I think the government, or some kind of ethics committee — somebody — should shut off social media between 6 p.m and 6 a.m. Leave it all up.

‘Everyone gets to do anything they want, but only between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Shut it off. Done,’ she continued.

The mom of four went on to reᴀssure her younger fans that there was life before social media and it was pretty great.

‘Guys, life was great. Life was awesome before this,’ she said. ‘I know it’s hard to see it now. But it’s doable. It’s very doable.

‘This doesn’t have to be our lives. And I say this for myself as well because — obviously — I’m on here [social media] right now doing this. But it doesn’t have to define us or be our whole lives,’ she concluded.

Before TikTok went dark, Chrissy predicted Donald Trump would use it as a power play to make himself look like a savior.

To be clear, Trump originally called for the ban, Joe Biden said he wouldn’t enforce the ban on Friday, and the platform itself posted odd messages saying Trump would save the app when U.S. users tried to access the service on Saturday night.

‘Let’s talk TikTok. Everyone’s bummed—”OMG, I can’t believe it’s shut down.” It’s not going to be shut down,’ she said.

‘[TikTok] is on a hiatus for now, and it’s going to come back. And it’s gonna come back under Trump’s leadership, so every young person is going to be like, “OMG, I’m so grateful he brought it back, he brought back free speech.”‘

‘It gets to be claimed by him as this amazing thing he did for people, and you’re all going to fall right into it.’

On Sunday, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to talk about his plans for saving TikTok, which he originally wanted banned back in 2020 as he saw it as a security threat.

‘I am asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect so that we can make a deal to protect our national security,’ he wrote.

‘The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order.’

Again, Biden said no fines or liabilities would be enforced as the ban took effect late on Saturday.

Chrissy, her husband John Legend, and their four kids Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren have a lot more to think about than TikTok.

The family was evacuated during the LA fires and took refuge in a H๏τel.

She posted on Instagram, writing: ‘4 kids, 4 dogs and a bearded dragon walk into a H๏τel’ as the pooches ran around the room.

Her and her husband sat on the H๏τel beds as they waited to find out if the fire spread to near their home.

She shared several clips on her Story with the family’s bearded dragon Sebastian and told her fans that they couldn’t have left him at home.

Earlier in the day she shared that she was packing to leave the house.

‘This is surreal,’ she captioned a mirror selfie from her closet as she held her hand in front of her mouth. ‘I’m very scared now. Packing.’

She stood next to a black suitcase and was presumably gathering her most cherished belongings before fleeing.

In an earlier post on her Instagram Story, she admitted to being at a loss for words as she described the out-of-control wildfires as a ‘hellscape.’

‘We are ok as of right now, and I felt weird saying that with so many people we know and don’t who are not ok,’ she wrote. ‘Thank you for reaching out. Looking for any and all ways to help our community right now, please send anything you see.

The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl concluded her post by writing: ‘And God bless the firefighters and all first responders.’
