‘Surprised’ Mel Gibson learned about his Donald Trump ‘Special Envoy’ appointment from social media

Mel Gibson has revealed he found out about his appointment as President-elect Donald Trump’s ‘special envoy’ to Hollywood via social media.

Trump announced divisive stars Gibson, 69, Jon Voight, 84 and Sylvester Stallone, 78, as ‘Special Ambᴀssadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California’ in a shock Truth Social post on Thursday.

‘These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!’

A stunned Gibson – who recently lost his Malibu home in the Palisades fire – reacted to the announcement in a new statement, saying: ‘I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised.

‘Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can. Any chance the position comes with an Ambᴀssador’s residence?’

Gibson, who was unofficially blacklisted by Hollywood after a 2006 anti-Semitic incident, made a headline-grabbing appearance at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in December.

Taking to the podium at the Champions For America Celebration Gala, put on by the group America’s Future which is currently led by Gen. Michael Flynn, he spoke talking about Flynn and his sister Mary O’Neill’s efforts to combat human trafficking.

Gibson praised the siblings for ‘exposing all these wolves in sheep’s clothing that pray upon our young.’

‘I’ve got nine kids. I don’t know, if one of them got stolen or trafficked or something, I’d have to kill someone,’ Gibson said.

The actor also said that President Joe Biden’s administration represented ‘thinly-veiled Marxism’ and called the upcoming takeover by President-elect Donald Trump a ‘four-year grace period.’

‘The president’s got a big job on his hands to turn this place around. A lot of damage has been done and they continue to start fires, just like around my house,’ Gibson said.

The comments proved eerily prophetic as his home was destroyed in the LA fires.

‘I hope in the next four years we can get back some of that precious commodity that this country has. That commodity called freedom,’ Gibson said. ‘We’ll see how much this administration can claw back from the philistines.’

More than 700 people joined the affair, which included an appearance by Trump, who stood alongside Kid Rock and Tucker Carlson – who like Gibson, were honored by the group.

Kid Rock and Carlson both received ‘Champion for America’ distinctions.

Last week Gibson recalled returning home to ‘nothing’ after his $14.5million Malibu mansion burned down while he was filming Joe Rogan’s podcast in Austin, Texas.

The shared his devastation after his home was razed by the horrific wildfires, in an emotional interview on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports.

While he was filming the podcast, Mel said he knew his neighborhood was on fire and wondered if his home was still standing.

Mel began: ‘Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional.’

He added: ‘I was doing the Rogan podcast… And [I was] kind of ill at ease while we were talking, because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought, I wonder if my place is still there.

‘But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there. I went home and I said to myself, well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.

‘I had a lot of personal things there that, you know, I can’t get back…

‘All kinds of stuff, everything from pH๏τographs to files to, you know, you know, just personal things that I had from over the years, and clothing, you know, pretty cool stuff, you know, but you know that can all be replaced.

‘These are only things. And the good, the good news is that, you know, those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really.’

Mel has been trying to sell his sprawling mansion for years, and even knocked $3million off the listing price.

The sprawling property, built in 1996, was purchased by the Oscar winner in 2008 for a cool $11.5 million and boasted five-bedroom, as well as a majestic old world feel including a castle style turret.
