Late Paul Danan previously opened up about his battle with ADHD (Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) that he admitted had plagued his relationships – after being linked to the likes of Kate Moss, Katie Price and  Lady Isabella Hervey. 

The Hollyoaks actor’s shock death was revealed on Thursday as his management confirmed his pᴀssing at the age of 46.

In a 2022 unpublished interview with The Sun Paul explained that after receiving the diagnosis in 2019 aged 40, did he understand why he’d failed to settle down and admitted he wished he’d ‘known earlier’.  

He told the publication: ‘[ADHD] affected my relationships throughout my life and that’s why I’m still single, If you’re with someone who doesn’t understand you and I’m not understanding myself, it’s only now that I can talk about it and I can learn more.’  

Paul said that while he considers ADHD a ‘super power’ it has also resulted in him ‘zoning in’ on things that interested him, while relationships with family and friends fell by the way side. 

‘[People with ADHD] can’t regulate our emotional mind very well, so we say things without pausing and thinking, whereas most people would have that filter where they think: “maybe I shouldn’t say that”‘.

‘We use the very emotional mind, we’re very impulsive and we just say what we’re thinking without thinking: ‘that might offend them or upset them’ – and then afterwards feel terrible about it and realise on reflection.’

Paul previously claimed to have gotten up to ‘no good’ with supermodel Kate, 51, on the set of a 2001 Rimmel commercial, earned him enough cash to pay for his house.

He also talked about his 2017 date with ex glamour model Katie, who instead went on to be a close friend instead of a romantic interest.

He claimed she brought along another man to what he thought was a date, adding: ‘All these years later she says she was probably a bit shy so she wanted someone with her. I took it to heart, as I thought she wasn’t interested.’ 

Following the tragic news of his death Katie took to Instagram to pay tribute to her close friend, writing that she is ‘speechless and shocked’ by the news. 

Meanwhile Lady Isabella, 42 embarked on an on-off relationship with Paul in 2005 amid their stint on Celebrity Love Island .

Following the news of his death she shared snaps of the former couple during their time together, Isabella penned: ‘Pauly…. I don’t know what to tell you as I’m still in utter shock your gone. [sic]

‘You were the kindest/ biggest hearted person/ so thoughtful/ always making me laugh when I was going through tough times over these two years. In fact you worried a lot about me and meanwhile you were in pain.

The socialite concluded: ‘You promised to visit me but now your gone. I will hold on to the good times and your incredible sense of humour. You never failed to make me laugh so hard id cry. Rest well and I cannot comprehend this is the end. I do not want to. Bella. [sic]’

Paul and Isabella had a tumultuous relationship while on the original series of the dating show 20 years ago, with the actor spending two weeks attempting to woo her – even trying to tempt her into sharing a bed with her during a champagne fuelled night.

The duo had their ups and downs in the villa – including an awkward love triangle with Playboy model Nikki Ziering – but ultimately things were not meant to be, though they had remained on friendly terms in the years since. 

Calum Best, who starred in the original Celebrity Love Island alongside Paul in 2006, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram as he called his friend one of the ‘most authentic people’ he’s ever known. 

They also starred together in the 2006 ITV2 reality show Calum, Fran And Dangerous Danan, which saw them travel across the US together.

Alongside a slew of throwback pictures from both shows, Calum quipped: ‘From the OG love island…to Calum , Fran and dangerous danan to all these years later staying mates and attending an event recently supporting people in sobriety.

Paul was best known for his role as Sol Patrick on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, before appearing on the reality series Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother.

A statement shared by Paul’s management and acting agents said on Thursday: ‘It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the pᴀssing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old. 

‘Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many. His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

‘During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.’  

Paul previously struggled with drug addiction, overdosing on heroin after returning from a stint in rehab, and in June he revealed that he was given CPR by his family after his ‘obsessive’ vape usage caused respiratory failure.

He also has a son named Deniro, who was born in September 2015. 

WHAT IS ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural condition defined by inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.

It affects around five per cent of children in the US. Some 3.6 per cent of boys and 0.85 per cent of girls suffer in the UK. 

Symptoms typically appear at an early age and become more noticeable as a child grows. These can also include:

Constant fidgeting Poor concentrationExcessive movement or talkingActing without thinkingInability to deal with stress Little or no sense of danger Careless mistakesMood swingsForgetfulness Difficulty organising tasks Continually starting new tasks before finishing old onesInability to listen or carry out instructions 

Most cases are diagnosed between six and 12 years old. Adults can also suffer, but there is less research into this.

ADHD’s exact cause is unclear but is thought to involve genetic mutations that affect a person’s brain function and structure.

Premature babies and those with epilepsy or brain damage are more at risk. 

ADHD is also linked to anxiety, depression, insomnia, Tourette’s and epilepsy.  

There is no cure. 

A combination of medication and therapy is usually recommended to relieve symptoms and make day-to-day life easier.
