Hollywood legend George Clooney was targeted by vile trolls following the release of his latest Nespresso coffee machine ads earlier this week.
While the campaign, which also starred Eva Longoria, was overwhelmingly met with support from his fans, a number of social media users claimed to have mistaken the two-time Oscar winner, 63, for Steve Martin, Omar Shariff or Arthur Daley.
‘An embarrᴀssing moment for all involved,’ one snarky hater commented under Nespresso’s post.
Others, however, insisted they ‘loved everything about’ the ad as they praised Clooney’s ‘legendary mustache acting.’
‘I just saw this commercial. I LOVE your commercials. George is GREAT in them,’ another agreed.
In his star-studded new ad, which paid homage to Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, Clooney played a Hercule Poirot-style detective.

‘This particular campaign was unbelievably fun because of the script and the cast. This was my first time working with my long-time friend Eva, who made the perfect culinary duo with Kim trying to deceive me,’ he said in a statement.
He continued: ‘They both brought such a vibrant energy to set and worked so seamlessly together. It was also wonderful to be reunited with Camille. She always brings a touch of sophistication, which was perfect for this role.’
Meanwhile Longoria gushed that ‘Nespresso campaigns are always iconic because of the casting.’
‘I’m thrilled that I’m now part of the family. Shooting the campaign was such a fun experience because of how light and comedic the script was, as well as the rapport that we all had working alongside each other,’ she gushed. ‘I’ve known George for a long time, but this was our first time working on a project together, and it was such a pleasure being on set with him, Kim and Camille.’
In addition to serving as a global ambᴀssador for Nespresso and a member of its Sustainability Advisory Board, Clooney has been the face of the company since 2006.
Outside of his role at Nespresso and demanding schedule as one of the biggest actors in the entertainment industry, he and wife Amal Clooney celebrated 10 years of marriage in September.

In 2014, the couple exchanged vows at Venetian palace Ca’ Farsetti.
He admitted that his life irreversibly changed for the better from the moment he first met Amal during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning in 2020.
‘There is no question that having Amal in my life changed everything for me,’ he said. ‘It was the first time that everything that she did and everything about her was infinitely more important than anything about me.’
Referring to their twins, whom they welcomed in 2017, he added: ‘And then we had these two knuckleheads. It is very fulfilling and something I wasn’t at all…didn’t see coming.’
In contrast to the feeling he previously shared with GQ magazine over the years, the actor couldn’t stop pouring out praise about married life during another 2020 interview.

While speaking about making the whodunnit mystery campaign, Clooney raved that ‘shooting with Nespresso is always a great time.’
He said: ‘I was like, “I’m never getting married. I’m not gonna have kids”. I’m gonna work, I’ve got great friends, my life is full, I’m doing well.
‘And I didn’t know how un-full it was until I met Amal. And then everything changed. And I was like, “Oh, actually, this has been a huge empty space.”‘
He explained that marriage changed him ‘because I’d never been in the position where someone else’s life was infinitely more important to me than my own. You know? And then tack on two more individuals, who are small and have to be fed.’
Speaking to People in 2020, the Batman & Robin star revealed he is yet to have an argument with his wife.

He gushed: ‘I feel very lucky in so many ways to have met her. We haven’t ever had an argument. You know, everybody’s been slammed together because of the coronavirus and a lot of friends’ relationships have been tested. For us, it’s been really easy.’
The smitten star noted that their shared pᴀssion for equality, philanthropy and humanitarian causes – the couple work jointly on human rights organization Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ) – has only served to strengthen their relationship.
‘She succeeds in so many different ways and stands up for what she believes in,’ he said of his wife. ‘We didn’t fall in love because of our work, but it ended up being something unusual we 44… We are really lucky and we know it.’
