Brody Jenner is coming clean about his current relationship with his parent Caitlyn Jenner.
On Wednesday’s episode of his reality series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, he opened up about his once difficult relationship with the 75-year-old former Olympian, who came out as a transgender woman in 2015.
Brody, who has previously said he planned to be the ‘exact opposite’ kind of father that Caitlyn was, revealed that things are ‘better now’ between the two.
‘I’d randomly see him — “him” at the time — you know, here and there,’ he said of the time he was growing up while Caitlyn — who has given her children permission to refer to her as their ‘dad’ — was largely absent.
Brody, 41, recalled his mother Linda Thompson telling him that, as a child, he ‘would write on cards, “Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?”‘
But the he and Caitlyn now seem to have patched up their relationship to a certain extent, even though he admitted elsewhere in the Special Forces episode that elements of Caitlyn’s televised gender transition ‘felt very invasive and not very genuine.’

‘Just recently, I got a real, sincere apology,’ he said of Caitlyn. ‘It was the first time in my life that I’ve ever gotten an apology. You know, I’m sorry for not being there, and honestly, it meant a lot.’
A representative for the former decathlete told People that ‘Caitlyn has a positive relationship with Brody and [his fiancée] Tia [Blanco],’ though she declined to speak about any private conversations she had had with her son in the past.

Brody, who welcomed a daughter named Honey Raye Jenner in July 2023 with the professional surfer, said he used his relationship with Caitlyn as a guide for how to be a father himself.
‘I think not having Bruce around growing up and her doing that transition, it was tough just being her son,’ he explained. ‘I just had a beautiful little daughter. I’m not living for myself anymore. I’m living for her.’
But he was optimistic that his future with Honey and his newfound devotion to family, which he thought would make him a ‘better father.’
‘I’m gonna do the exact opposite of, as far as being there for her, as my father did for me,’ he declared.
‘I had an incredible mother [Thompson]. Father — Bruce — at the time, wasn’t around that much. They split, and then he met a woman,’ he said, referring to Caitlyn’s third wife, Kris Jenner, with whom she shares daughter Kendall and Kylie. ‘She had kids as well. The woman that he met … they had kids together.’
Brody’s seemingly cold way of referring to his half siblings was explained by his admission that he felt ‘a little bit abandoned’ by Caitlyn during the time that she was filming Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

But over time he came to understand the struggles that she was facing behind the scenes.
‘I will say, he was going through his own struggles, transitioning, and it was all that was put on TV, and there were these moments that we would have that was all filmed, and it just felt very invasive and not very genuine, I would say,’ Brody said.
He added that it felt ‘like a relief’ when he learned that Caitlyn was transitioning because aspects of their relationship ‘started to make sense,’ and he had a better understanding of why Caitlyn ‘wasn’t there all those years.’
‘And I think when you have kids, you need to accept a little bit of responsibility that the things you do are also going to reflect on them as well,’ Brody admitted. ‘I think it really has shaped me to do everything different and to really be there and to be present to my little girl.’
