‘Their marital issues have felt suffocating for a while,’ a source told People. Jessica – who has Maxi, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, five, with Eric – found that their marital troubles were taking a toll on her general wellbeing; seen in 2015
She told People: ‘Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage.
‘Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.’
By contrast, Jessica explained in 2023 that the couple did lots of ‘little things’ to keep their romance alive.
The pop star – who was previously married to Nick Lachey – told Access at the time: ‘It’s good to keep the romance there, even with three kids on top of our head. It’s hard, but he’ll leave me little notes, because he’ll wake up earlier than me. He’ll leave me little letters.
‘There’s a lot of things that make me like, ‘I can’t wait to get my hands on him later.’ I think you have to have those little things as a couple that are just between you two.’
This comes after news the bombshell has already recorded brand-new music in Nashville, Tennessee.
She moved to Nashville in 2023 to reconnect with her country music ‘roots.’
And the siren has many songs on the album that have to do with heartbreak as she penned them when her marriage to Eric Johnson was unraveling, DailyMail.com has learned.
‘It will be about her broken heart, so, yeah, I guess you can call it a revenge, a heartbreak album,’ a source told DailyMail.com after the star announced on Monday she is living separately from Eric.
‘When Jessica writes music, she pours her heart into it and has no filter, it’s very personal. So the album will really be about the struggles she has been through at home. It is super emotional and shares her side of the story.

‘She has been working on the album for years, there is a lot in there.’
In addition to working in Nashville, she has been recording at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles.
The last time she posted a pH๏τo with Eric to her Instagram page was in September 2023 so it seems the marital strife has been lingering for a while.
The Take My Breath Away hitmaker — who’s had a number of high-profile romances — and the retired тιԍнт end tied said ‘I do’ back in 2014, after four years of dating.
The star was last pictured wearing her wedding ring in 2023.
The couple hasn’t been spotted together since Birdie’s kindergarten graduation back in June 7, and Jessica’s Instagram has been conspicuously Eric-free since their Easter celebration on April 9.
Jessica raised eyebrows by failing to give Eric a birthday shout-out on his 45th birthday on September 10, further igniting rumors of a marital rift.

Jessica fueled the chatter with a cryptic social media post on November 11 that appeared to throw shade at someone close to her.
‘Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,’ began the singer in her caption.
‘This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.’
Her quote raised eyebrows as followers tried to guess who made her put up with ‘everything I did not deserve.’
