Kylie Jenner is opening up about her experience in motherhood starting at the ripe age of 19.
As the mom to daughter Stormi, 6, and son Aire 2, whom she shares with ex Travis Scott, the Kylie Cosmetics founder, 26, got candid in conversation with British Vogue about being “in full mommy mode in my early 20s.”
Recalling her first pregnancy with Stormi, Jenner shares, “I was 19 when I got pregnant, 20 when I had her,” adding that, “it was wild.”
“Looking back at it, I give myself more empathy and grace,” she explains. “But when I was a teenager, even my family were like: ‘You aren’t that young.’ I think maybe I carried myself [a certain way] or I’d already been working for 10 years. It didn’t hit me [straight away]. But it was a huge life change.”
Now, Jenner says, “I have this daughter and I just want the best for her and I want her to just love herself unconditionally.”
The Kardashians star reveals that it’s her children that get her through each day. “No matter what I’m going through or what I look like or what the internet writes about me that day,” she says, “I come home and my kids just love me unconditionally.
“They’re just obsessed with me and that’s taught me to walk through life a little easier. I’m like, ‘OK, well I have these little humans at home that need me and love me and think I’m the most perfect person in the world, so I don’t really need validation from outside sources.’”
What Jenner deems to be the “tricky part” of being a young mom, “is figuring out the balance of growing up with your kids” and explaining her lifestyle to her friends without children of their own.
“I have to remind my friends who don’t have kids all the time, who are like: ‘Let’s do this in the morning!’, that I have children,” she explains. “Letting go of your selfishness and your freedom at a very young age… I don’t think we realize how selfish we are as human beings until we have children. But, you know, that is also the biggest pro.”
“I’m 26 and I have a first-grader. I’m going to be 40 with a 20-year-old,” she cries, then adds, “And we’re going to be best friends.”
